THIS FASHION INDUSTRY IS BROAD — YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING! 👏🏽

The fashion industry is BIG, and there is room for everyone.

You don't have to do everything at once before you can succeed.

If you want to focus on ready-to-wear, you can make your money there.

If bespoke is your thing, you can build a successful business with it.

If you want to sell tailoring materials, you can also make a good living from it.

I have seen people who have only an overlocking machine use that one machine to make money. I've also seen people who own a rivet machine turn that skill into a business.

You don't even have to sew commercially if that's not what you want.

If you want to be a fashion tutor, teach and make your money from teaching. There are people in this industry who don't sew commercially but are excellent teachers.

And there are also people who sew commercially but don't teach.

Both are valid!

We have people who specialize in ready-to-wear and are excelling tremendously.

If your strength is making two-piece outfits, boubou, A-line dresses, kaftans, or any other particular style, and you can make it excellently well—even if someone wakes you up from sleep—you should consider concentrating on that strength.

Everything must not be corset! 😂

I see people believing that if a tailor doesn't sew corset, then the person doesn't know how to sew.

And this mindset is making some beginners rush to learn corset before they even understand the basics.

Some will even ask a fashion designer, “Do you sew corset?” before deciding whether to learn from them.

And if the answer is NO, they walk away.

But my dear, corset is only ONE aspect of fashion.

There are so many areas in this industry where you can become exceptionally good, make money, build a name and even become an authority.

So please, don't overwhelm yourself trying to learn everything at once.

Find what you love.

Find what you're good at.

Master it.

Build your business around it.

And when you're ready to expand, you can always learn something new.

Fashion is broad. The industry is big. There is room for you to succeed without doing everything. ❤️

Yesterday, I showed you the cutting process of this dress… and today, here is the finished result! ✂️✨

A beautiful Kimono dress with a wing collar, hidden side pockets, and an inner belt to beautifully cinch the waist. 😍

Because for me, it’s not just about making a dress look beautiful — the little details matter too! ❤️

The hidden pockets? ✔️

The inner belt for that beautiful waist definition? ✔️

The wing collar? ✔️

The final look? Gbamsolutely YES! 🔥😍

I love creating outfits that are not only beautiful but also comfortable, practical and flattering.

So tell me… did the finished dress meet your expectations after seeing yesterday’s cutting? 👇🏽❤️

Before I touched a sewing machine, I was already a designer on paper. ✂️📝

During my apprenticeship days, especially when I was just starting, my madam did not allow me to sew with the machine immediately.

Instead, she asked me to get pattern papers… and those papers became my “fabric.”

I would draft, cut, and sew different designs on paper. I made bustier tops, straight skirts, peplum tops, and many other styles.

That was where I learnt how to:
✨ Fix darts correctly
✨ Understand garment structure
✨ Place zips
✨ Correct my mistakes patiently

Whenever I made an error, my madam would ask me to loosen it and redo it. I had to carefully remove every stitch because tearing the paper meant starting all over again.

I still remember the day she cut my paper because the dart I fixed on the skirt was straight instead of properly shaped. At that moment, it felt painful, but today I understand she was teaching me precision.

And guess what? All those sewing practices were done with needle and thread, not a sewing machine.

Later, I learnt how to pedal the machine. At first, I was only practising the movement — going back and forth, learning control and confidence.

I only started sewing properly on the machine when my late mum bought me my own sewing machine. ❤️

Looking at some beginners today, I notice something different.

Many want to skip the process. They want to learn everything at once. They want to jump straight into corsets, complicated gowns, and trending styles without mastering the foundation.

Ask them to practise with paper, and you hear complaints.

Ask them to sew simple A-line dresses or boubou styles, and they start searching for tutorials.

But my question is…

What is the rush? Who are you trying to impress?

The foundation you ignore today is the same foundation that will support your success tomorrow.

A strong designer is not built by rushing into complex designs. A strong designer is built by mastering the basics, making mistakes, correcting them, and growing step by step.

Take your time. Learn the process. Respect the journey. ❤️

A CUSTOMER SAID MY FABRIC WAS EXPENSIVE… AND I DIDN’T GET ANGRY. HERE’S WHY. 👇🏽

On Thursday, I took some of my Ankara fabrics to church to market them to the members. We usually have a one-hour programme on Thursday mornings, so I decided to use the opportunity to showcase some of my beautiful and colourful fabrics.

A lot of people admired them. Some even promised to come back and pick the ones they liked.

Today, one of them came with her money.

Funny enough, I didn't even go with the fabrics today. 😅

She brought the money, paid me and said she would come to my house later to pick the fabric.

But before handing me the money, she said something:

“This fabric is expensive. Where did you buy it?”

Now, let me ask you…

What would you have done if you were in my shoes?

Would you have gotten offended?

Would you have said, “That’s the price. If you don't like it, leave it.”?

Or would you have returned her money?

I chose to explain.

Calmly.

I explained to her why the fabric was priced that way, and I didn't take her question as an insult.

Instead, I appreciated her for asking, thanked her for her patronage and for supporting my business.

And guess what?

She was happy with my explanation. ❤️

THIS IS THE POINT I WANT YOU TO TAKE AWAY FROM THIS STORY:

Customers WILL ask questions.

They will ask:

👉🏽 “Why is this so expensive?”

👉🏽 “Why is yours more expensive than what I saw somewhere else?”

👉🏽 “Can you reduce the price?”

👉🏽 “Why is this particular one more expensive?”

And you need to understand that asking questions doesn't mean the customer is disrespecting you.

Sometimes, they simply want to understand what they are paying for before they part with their money.

They may even have seen the same-looking product somewhere else at a cheaper price.

But here's the thing…

They are standing in front of YOU.

And your attitude, your explanation and your customer service can determine whether they will buy from you or walk away.

Some business owners have ZERO customer service.

Ask them why their product is expensive and the answer you get is:

“That's the price.” 😒

No explanation.

No courtesy.

No attempt to educate the customer.

Just attitude.

Please, let's do better.

Because if you don't know how to respond to customers' questions or you have poor customer service, you will lose customers.

I've seen it happen many times around me.

Even me sef… 😂

If I come to your shop to patronise you and you give me attitude, I will quietly walk away.

And please don't come later and tell me:

“I was angry because somebody else annoyed me.”

My dear, DON'T TRANSFER AGGRESSION TO ME. 😂

Whoever made you angry, face that person.

When I come to patronise your business, attend to me well. ❤️

Remember:

Your product may attract the customer, but your customer service can determine whether they come back.

Business owners, let's learn to answer questions with patience, educate our customers and treat them with respect.

Because sometimes, the customer isn't saying NO… they just need a good explanation before they say YES. ❤️

Have you ever asked a seller why their product was expensive and received a bad attitude?

✂️ TODAY’S WORK IS OFFICIALLY STARTING! 💙💜

I just finished cutting this dress, i have been procrastinating since morning. Been thinking of what to make with this 2yards of Ankara and just this evening, a design came to mind.

Drafting done ✅
Cutting done ✅
Next stop… THE SEWING MACHINE! 😍🔥

This beautiful fabric is about to become a stunning kimono dress, and I honestly can’t wait to see the finished look! 👗✨

One thing I love about fashion is that before you see the beautiful finished outfit, there’s always this stage…

The measurements. The drafting. The cutting. The vision. ✂️❤️

And trust me, something beautiful is cooking! 👀🔥

Should I show you the finished kimono dress when I’m done? 😍

THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING PRODUCTIVE AND BEING BUSY 👀

If you have been mistaking being busy for being productive, you have been mixing the two up, it time to know the difference between the two.

This post will help you differentiate the two of them, just read till end.👇

You can be busy from morning till night and still not move your business forward.

You can spend hours answering messages, scrolling through social media, rearranging things, planning, sewing, posting… and at the end of the day, ask yourself:

“What did I actually accomplish today?” 🤔

Being BUSY means you are doing things.

Being PRODUCTIVE means you are doing the RIGHT things that move you closer to your goal. 🎯

For example:

❌ Spending 3 hours scrolling social media = busy.

✅ Creating and posting content that attracts your ideal customers = productive.

❌ Talking endlessly about starting that business = busy.

✅ Actually taking the first step = productive.

❌ Making plans every day without executing them = busy.

✅ Taking action, even when it's not perfect = productive.

And sometimes, productivity doesn't look like doing 20 things in one day.

Sometimes, it's doing ONE important thing that can change everything.

So before you say, “I'm so busy!”
Ask yourself:

“Am I actually productive, or am I just occupied?”

That question can change the way you work. 💯

What is ONE productive thing that you accomplished today? Tell me in the comments. 👇🏽

MY SUNDAY GOT ME THIS WAY.🥰

Some outfits are just too beautiful to be worn only once. 😍❤️

I wore this outfit to a wedding last year, and while I was there, someone saw me, loved the outfit and asked if she could please take a picture of it. 🥰

Fast forward to today… I brought the dress out again and wore it to church! 😂❤️
