A LETTER TO SOUTH AFRICANS.
My dear people of the South, this is no longer just xenophobia, it is afrophobia because, The hostility is mostly directed at fellow black Africans.
You say black foreign nationals are taking your jobs, increasing crime, and damaging the economy, yet there are bigger systems of inequality in your country that rarely recieve the same anger.
Black South africans are still the most unemployed group in your country, and the effects of apartheid still shape who owns wealth, land, businesses, and opportunities today.
There are still many black South africans struggling to access land, property ownership and economic opportunities in their own country. Yet, instead of collectively confronting those systems, the frustration is redirected towards fellow africans who are also trying to survive.
If this truly was just about "foreigners", then the outrage would be equally directed at all foreigners and at the systems that continue to disadvantage black South Africans. But instead, it is the black Africans being targeted, humiliated, attacked, beaten and blamed for every societal issue.
Yes, some foreign nationals commit crime but so do some South africans. Crime has no nationality. Individuals involved, should be prosecuted individually through the laws, and not through mobs, taking justice into their own hands.
No Nation is perfect. South Africa itself is battling gender-based violence, corruption, unemployment, drugs and crime. Every country has his own issues.
Ask yourselves, who benefits when Africans are divided, fighting one another instead of standing together.
The painful truth is this, if every black foreign nationals leaves South Africa today, the anger will still not disappear. It would simply turn inward through tribalism, classism and division among ourselves. Because the issue is deeper than nationality. It is unresolved trauma, inequality, self-hate, and the psychological aftermath of apartheid.
We can not preach African unity while humiliating and dehumanizing fellow Africans at the same time.
Co-existing people will always have issues, anywhere in the World, but the manner of dealing with problems matters. Violence, humiliation, and taking laws into our hands will never heal your Country.
