President Bola Tinubu has met with service chiefs for the first time since his assumption into office, demanding security agencies to strengthen coordination and not work at cross purposes.

At the end of the meeting on Thursday, the President disclosed his own philosophy towards dealing with security issues, which is the adoption of contemporary security measures to advance the country’s security fortunes.

The House of Representatives has asked President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on drug abuse in the country.

This followed a motion of urgent national importance by a member of the House, Francis Agbo, drawing the attention of the house to the efforts of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to rid the country of hard drugs.

The House was also worried about the equipment and weapons available to the NDLEA and asked for an increase in the budgetary allocation to the agency.

The lawmakers want the NDLEA to be funded directly by the Presidency.

Meanwhile, the Ninth House of Representatives will hold its valedictory session on Tuesday June 6, 2023.

In a significant development, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has officially revealed the new price range for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as fuel or petrol.
Effective immediately, the prices have been set at ₦488 and ₦555 per litre at the peak, signaling the end of the fuel subsidy era.
The decision comes shortly after the newly elected President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made the declaration to terminate fuel subsidy in Nigeria. The termination has caused ripples in the downstream sector of the country's petroleum industry.
Earlier reports from this newspaper had highlighted indications of an imminent spike in petrol prices. A leaked document had revealed a troubling retail price of over ₦500 per litre, which had caused confusion and concern in the industry.
During a meeting held by NNPC stakeholders on Wednesday morning, it was agreed upon and approved by the management to revise the NNPC PMS pump price table for Mega/Standard/Leased Stations. Subsequently, all marketers were instructed to adjust the retail prices of petroleum products across different states.
Contrary to earlier assumptions that the fuel price determination would be delayed, the management has now released a new table of retail prices for various geopolitical zones in the country. Marketers have been directed to implement these changes immediately from Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
In an official statement to the press, the management stated, "Please implement meter change as approved, effective today, May 31, 2023. Wayne is to attend to all locations as relates to their area of coverage in our network."
Under the revised price schedule, the highest petrol prices will be observed in Maiduguri and Damaturu, where it will be sold at ₦557 per litre. In the rest of the Northeast zone, the price will be ₦550 per litre.

Today we remember Millions of our People Men, Women and Especially Children Killed unjustly by the Nigerian Government in a mass Genocide Against the Igbo people who I am one.

Economic Biafra refers to the idea of Ala-Igbo (the southeastern region of Nigeria, commonly referred to as the South-East) having more control over its economy through deliberate investment and development of key sectors such as infrastructure, education, technology, agriculture, health and transportation. Having been marginalized by successive governments in terms of resource allocation, development and leadership representation at the federal level and also experiencing failures of government at the state level, it is only right that Ndigbo (at home and in diaspora) should take the bull by the horn and initiate a development drive by themselves. Ala-Igbo has more than enough resources to build a solid 21st-century economy; we can achieve this together.

I’ll treat Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as important compatriots — Pres. Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu says he will treat his opponents in the February 25 presidential election as important compatriots.

Tinubu defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to emerge as president-elect.

He was officially sworn-in as Nigeria’s 16th president on Monday, May 29, at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

Speaking in his inaugural speech, the president said: “My victory does not render me more Nigerian than the rest of you. It also does not render my opponents less Nigerian than me. I will treat my opponents, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, as important compatriots.

The outcome reflected the will of the people, however, considering that I am not more Nigerian than my opponent... They shall forever be my fellow compatriots and I will treat them as such. They represent important constituencies and concerns, their wisdom is there not to be ignored.

Some have taken their concerns to court seeking legal redress. That is their right and I fully respect that exercise. This is the essence of the rule of law.”

If you’re currently buying a litre of petrol at N175 in your area, it’s because the Federal Government is purportedly paying billions of Naira every month to make it available and affordable for you.
In other words, you should be paying much more to get a litre of petrol into your car or power your generator sets whenever the national grid collapses or when the Power Distribution Companies (DisCos) throw us into darkness.
But thankfully, with subsidy, the FG allegedly pays more than 50 per cent of the actual price of the petrol you buy at filling stations.
How does this work?

Okay, let’s break it down further.
Nigeria is an oil-producing country. We have oil in abundance in many states, but we don’t have functional refineries to turn our crude oil into a finished product.
So, to process the crude oil, we take it out in barrels to foreign refineries and import it back into the country for domestic supply.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) is the sole importer of refined petroleum in Nigeria.
After all the expenses incurred in refining the crude oil, including logistics, the cost of producing a litre of petrol is pegged above N400. This is called “The landing cost.”

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has told the people of the state to blame the relocation of the newly commissioned Dangote Refinery to Lagos on his predecessor, Ibikunle Amosun.
The governor said the Chairman, and CEO of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote had wanted to site his $19bn oil refinery in the Olokola Free Trade Zone, in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state, but the billionaire businessman was frustrated out of the state.
Abiodun who was the Chairman, Olokola Free Trade Zone, under Amosun’s administration made this known on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin.
In the statement, the governor said Amosun should be blamed for the relocation of the mega refinery from Ogun to Lagos.
Somorin alleged that Amosun frustrated the effort of the committee headed by Abiodun to retain the project in the state because he had personal issues with the promoters of the project in Ogun.
The statement reads in part, “Governor Abiodun, as the chairman of the committee and a big player in the oil and gas industry himself, did everything possible to make sure the project saw the light of the day.
“The then governor, perhaps, having a personal axe to grind with the promoter of the refinery project, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, frustrated all the efforts of Governor Abiodun and his committee.
“The immediate Chairman, Board of Directors of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, who was then a commissioner, served as the secretary of the committee, which engaged Dangote on the mega project.
The statement added that the people of the state are pained by the investment loss because Ogun had been marked as the most suitable natural location for the refinery project.
Abiodun absolved himself of blame after a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Sowunmi, accused him on the loss of the $19bn Dangote refinery to Lagos.
