Favouritism Among Children: A Seed That Grows Into Division
Showing more love to one child than another is like planting the seeds of bitterness and division in your own family. Many siblings who grow up with resentment, jealousy, or hatred towards one another often didn't become that way on their own. If you trace the root of the problem, you'll frequently find parental favouritism.
Some parents constantly compare one child to another, praise one while criticising the other, or openly show preference. These actions may seem small, but they leave deep emotional wounds that can last a lifetime. A child who constantly feels overlooked may grow up with low self-esteem, while the favoured child may develop pride or entitlement. In the end, everyone loses.
Parents, this is a heartfelt call to you: the way you treat your children today will shape the relationship they have with one another tomorrow. Love your children equally. Treat them fairly. Celebrate each child's unique strengths instead of comparing them. Encourage unity, teamwork, and genuine affection among them.
Even if, in your heart, you naturally feel closer to one child, never let it be obvious. Your children should never have to compete for your love or approval. Avoid speaking negatively about one child to another or instigating conflict between siblings. Instead, be the bridge that keeps your family together, not the wall that divides it.
One day, you will leave this world. The greatest inheritance you can leave your children is not money or property, but love, peace, and unity. Raise children who will stand by one another, not against one another.
Choose fairness. Choose wisdom. Choose love. Your children, and generations after them, will thank you for it.
