Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered a full investigation into allegations of medical negligence following the d3ath of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.



According to the statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu has directed the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) to immediately commence a comprehensive, independent and transparent investigation into the incident.


The probe is expected to establish both the immediate and underlying causes of the child’s d3ath and determine whether there were lapses in professional conduct or medical standards.

Speaking to his supporters at a recent gathering, the Abia North senator and former governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, declared that Governor Otti should “write his will,” insisting that he and his political group are prepared to take over the state.

Kalu, whose younger brother Mascot Kalu contested and lost the 2023 Abia governorship election to Otti, maintained that his siblings have the constitutional right to contest any election of their choice.

He further stated that ahead of the 2027 governorship election, he would campaign from door to door across the state to ensure Governor Otti’s defeat.

According to Kalu, he remains “a good senator on the right track” and insisted that Governor Otti “can never win a free and fair election.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has raised alarm over the growing trend of bribes being paid in foreign currency, warning that the dollarisation of the Nigerian economy undermines the naira and fuels corruption.

Falana made the remarks on Sunday night, September 14 during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television. He argued that the acceptance and promotion of the dollar over the naira, even by government officials, was worsening the economic crisis and eroding confidence in Nigeria’s legal tender.

“The president was announcing gifts to footballers in dollars, not naira. It has to stop. We must promote the naira, not the dollar,” he said.

He reminded Nigerians that it is unlawful to reject the naira for transactions within the country: “As a matter of fact, it is a criminal offence to reject the naira. We need to stop paying fees and buying properties in dollars.”

Falana’s comments come amid rising concerns about the depreciation of the naira and the increased use of dollars in real estate, school fees, business contracts, and even illicit payments. He insisted that stronger enforcement of existing laws and stricter regulation of foreign currency use are necessary to restore the value of the national currency.
