WHAT THE FARM TAUGHT ME TODAY

The farm taught me that hard work alone is not enough; you must also know when to change your approach.
A farmer can do everything right and still meet a season that doesn't cooperate.
Too much rain.
Too little rain.
Pests appear.
Weeds grow faster than expected.
A crop doesn't respond the way you thought it would.
You cannot stand in the middle of the farm and complain that the weather should obey your plans. 😂
You observe. You adjust. You keep moving.
That lesson goes beyond farming.
Sometimes, what worked yesterday may not work today. And changing your approach doesn't mean you have failed. It means you have learned something.
The wise farmer doesn't stubbornly repeat the same method while the farm is telling him something different.
👉Work hard, but keep your eyes open.

This morning, I was on my way to the farm again. No applause, no crowd,just the road ahead, the soil waiting, and another opportunity to turn hard work into something meaningful.

That is farming. You keep showing up. You keep planting. You keep believing.

LOOK WHAT SNAILS AND SLUGS DID TO MY PUMPKIN LEAVES!

At first glance, you may think these are just ordinary holes on the pumpkin leaves.

But look closely. 👀

Those irregular holes and damaged edges are signs that snails and slugs have been feeding on the leaves, especially during the cool, damp hours when they are most active.

And the damage doesn't stop with one leaf.

If their population is allowed to increase, they can:

👉 Eat large portions of the leaves
👉 Damage young and tender leaves
👉Reduce the plant's ability to produce food through photosynthesis
👉 Attack newly emerging shoots
👉 Leave weak plants struggling to recover

Pumpkin needs healthy leaves because the leaves are the plant's food-making factory.

So when pests continuously destroy those leaves, you're not just losing leaves,you can eventually lose plant growth and yield.

WHAT CAN A FARMER DO?

The first step is early detection.

Check your pumpkin farm regularly, especially around damp areas, under leaves, around plant debris and other places where slugs and snails can hide.

You can also hand-pick them when they are active and remove their hiding places around the farm.

If the infestation becomes serious, use a properly labelled molluscicide according to the product instructions and observe all crop-safety requirements.

Farm lesson:
Don't wait until the leaves are almost destroyed before you investigate.

Walk your farm. Inspect your crops. Identify the pest. Act early.

That's part of good farming.

MORNING DEVOTIONAL FOR FARMERS

When You Plant, Trust God With the Harvest

A farmer can prepare the soil, plant the seed, w**d the farm, apply manure, protect the crops and water them,but the farmer cannot command the seed to grow.

There comes a point where we must leave the rest in God’s hands.

The same is true in life.

You may be doing everything you know to do, yet the results may seem slow. Don’t give up.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.” 1 Corinthians 3:6

Your responsibility is to be faithful with the seed God has placed in your hands.

Keep working.
Keep praying.
Keep learning.
Keep trusting.

The harvest may not come when you expect it, but God is still at work beneath the soil.

🙏 Prayer:
Lord, give every farmer strength for today’s work. Bless the labour of our hands, protect our crops from destruction, and teach us to trust You even when we cannot yet see the harvest. May our farms and our lives produce good fruit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Farmer, don’t abandon the field because you cannot yet see the harvest. Keep sowing faithfully.

🐌🪱 SLUGS & SNAILS: SMALL CREATURES, BIG DAMAGE!

If you grow vegetables, don't underestimate slugs and snails.

They may look harmless, but these little pests can cause serious damage, especially in young vegetable farms and during periods of high moisture.

👉 WHAT DAMAGE DO THEY CAUSE?

• They chew irregular holes in tender leaves.
• They can destroy newly transplanted seedlings overnight.
• They attack young shoots and soft stems.
• They leave a shiny, slimy trail on leaves and around the soil.
• Severe attacks can slow plant growth or even kill young plants.

👉 Crops like pumpkin, waterleaf, cabbage, lettuce and other tender leafy vegetables can be particularly vulnerable.

👉 HOW CAN YOU CONTROL THEM?

1️⃣ Keep the farm clean. Remove unnecessary w**ds, plant debris, rotten leaves and other places where slugs and snails can hide.

2️⃣ Reduce excessive moisture. Avoid unnecessary overwatering, especially in areas that already stay damp.

3️⃣ Hand-pick them. Check the farm early in the morning or in the evening/night when they are more active. Collect and remove them from the farm.

4️⃣ Use traps. Simple bait or shelter traps can help attract and collect them, reducing their population.

5️⃣ Use approved molluscicides when necessary. Where infestation is serious, use a properly labelled slug/snail control product and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.

👉 One important lesson: Don't just spray every insect or creature you see on the farm. First identify what is actually causing the damage and choose the right control method.

A healthy farm isn't just about planting.

It is about observing, identifying problems early, and managing them wisely.
