*"THE COST OF SAYING 'NO', HOW ONE WORD EXPOSES THE FILTH IN EVERY HUMAN HEART"*
*_(VERSION TWO)_*
*Written By: CA (Dr) Williams Goodluck U. (PhD)*
Let me be blunt. Let me be direct. Let me tell you the one test that never fails.
It is not a blood test. It is not a lie detector.
It is a one-word test: *“NO.”*
Say it.
Say it to your boss.
Say it to your family.
Say it to your church.
Say it to your friend.
Say it to the person who thinks you exist to serve them.
Then stand still and watch.
Watch how fast love turns to poison.
Watch how fast “God bless you” becomes “God punish you.”
Watch how fast the mask falls and the real face shows up, dirty, bitter, entitled.
*1. “NO” IS THE SOAP THAT WASHES PAINTED FACES*
Everybody is nice when you are useful.
Everybody is “brother” and “sister” when you are saying “yes.”
Your phone rings every morning when you are the one giving.
Your name is sweet in their mouth when you are the one carrying their load.
But the day you say, _“No, I can’t this time. I’m tired. I’m broke. I have my own problems,”_ watch:
You become “proud.”
You become “stingy.”
You become “ungrateful.”
You become “the person who has changed because of small money.”
The love was never love. It was transaction.
The respect was never respect. It was access.
“NO” just exposed the invoice they hid behind the hug.
*2. IN THE FAMILY: “NO” TURNS YOU INTO A STRANGER*
Tell your rich uncle, _“No, I can’t leave school to come wash your car this weekend.”_
Immediately you are “arrogant.” “Your education has entered your head.”
Forget that he never paid your school fees. Forget that he only remembers you when he needs labor.
Tell your parents, _“No, I won’t marry that man you chose. I don’t love him.”_
Suddenly you are “a disgrace.” “You want to kill us.” “After all we did for you.”
As if your life is repayment for their sacrifice.
Tell your siblings, _“No, I can’t keep sending money every month. I have my own children now.”_
You become “wicked.” “You forgot where you came from.”
Nobody asks if where you are now is even safe.
In many families, “NO” is treason. And the punishment is character assassination.
*3. IN THE WORKPLACE: “NO” MAKES YOU UNEMPLOYABLE*
Tell your boss, _“No, I won’t work on Sunday. It’s my day of worship.”_
You are now “not committed.” “Not a team player.”
Promotion? It will pass you. Query? It will find you.
Tell a colleague, _“No, I won’t cover for you again. I did it last 5 times and you didn’t say thank you.”_
You are now “difficult.” “Not cooperative.” “You don’t help people.”
But when you were helping, nobody called it help. They called it your duty.
In offices, “NO” is the fastest way to be called a “bad energy.”
Because systems don’t love people. Systems love slaves.
*4. IN CHURCH/MOSQUE: “NO” MAKES YOU BACKSLIDDEN*
Tell your pastor, _“No, I can’t give that prophet seed again. My rent is due.”_
Suddenly you “don’t have faith.” “You are blocking your blessing.” “The devil is using you.”
The same God who says “Love your neighbor” is now used to guilt you for loving yourself.
Tell the unit leader, _“No, I can’t come for rehearsal by 5am daily. I work night shift.”_
You are now “not serious with God.” “You love your job more than God.”
But the church will still collect your tithe from that same job.
Religion without boundaries becomes manipulation. And “NO” is the holy water that exposes it.
*5. IN FRIENDSHIP, “NO” ENDS MANY TEN-YEAR RELATIONSHIPS IN TEN SECONDS*
Borrow a friend money 9 times. The 10th time, say _“No, I don’t have.”_
You are now “wicked.” “You changed.” “Is it because I’m poor?”
The 9 yeses are erased. The 1 no is engraved.
Tell a friend, _“No, I won’t lie for you this time.”_
You become “judgmental.” “Holy holy.” “You’re not a real friend.”
Because many friendships are not built on truth. They are built on conspiracy.
“NO” doesn’t destroy friendship. “NO” reveals that it was never friendship. It was alliance.
*6. IN MARRIAGE & RELATIONSHIPS — “NO” UNCOVERS ABUSE*
Tell your husband, _“No, I’m too tired tonight.”_
If he calls you “wife of material,” “you don’t respect me,” “other women are better,” that was never love. That was ownership.
Tell your wife, _“No, we can’t buy that new phone yet. We need to pay school fees.”_
If she calls you “useless man,” “I regret marrying you,” that was never partnership. That was parasitism.
A person who cannot handle your “NO” does not deserve your “YES.”
Because love without respect is just a decorated cage.
*7. WHY DOES “NO” MAKE PEOPLE DIRTY?*
Because most humans are entitled.
Because we raise children who never hear “no,” then they become adults who fight “no.”
Because we call it “culture” when elders are always right, when oga is always right, when “big man” is always right.
Because we have taught people that your value is in your usefulness, not in your humanity.
So when you stop being useful, they stop being nice.
When you set a boundary, they set fire to your name.
*8. THE PAINFUL TRUTH: WE ARE ALL GUILTY*
Let’s not lie. We’ve done it too.
We’ve called someone *“wicked”* because they didn’t pick our call at 2am.
We’ve called someone *“proud”* because they didn’t give us the money we wanted.
We’ve stopped talking to people because they chose themselves once.
We hate when it’s done to us. But we do it to others.
That is the human condition. That is the wickedness without uniform.
*9. SO WHAT SHOULD “NO” TEACH US?*
1. *“NO” is not wickedness. “NO” is honesty.* A fake “yes” destroys more than an honest “no.”
2. *Any relationship that dies because you set a boundary needed to die.* You are not a rehab center for entitled people.
3. *Before you curse someone for saying “NO,” ask: Have I ever respected their “YES”?* Did I say thank you? Did I reciprocate? Or did I just take and take?
4. *Teach your children to hear “NO.”* A child who never hears “no” will become an adult who breaks when life says “no.”
5. *Check your own mouth.* When someone says “NO” to you, does dirt come out of you? If yes, you are the problem you’ve been praying about.
*FINALLY: THE GIFT OF “NO”*
*“NO”* will reduce your friends. But it will increase your peace.
*“NO”* will make people talk. But it will make God smile.
*“NO”* will make you lose people. But it will make you find yourself.
Because the people who leave you because you said *“NO”* were never with you. They were on you.
They were feeding on you. And when the food stopped, they moved to the next kitchen.
So say *“NO”* with your chest.
Say it without guilt.
Say it without long explanation.
*“NO”* is a complete sentence.
And if they become dirty because of your *“NO,”* thank God.
Because dirt exposed is dirt that can be avoided.
Better to cry once from their words than to die slowly from their demands.
The world does not need more people who say *“YES”* to everything.
The world is bleeding because too many people said *“YES”* when they should have said *“NO.”*
Yes to abuse. Yes to slavery. Yes to silence. Yes to death.
So today, I give you permission: *SAY “NO.” And let the dirty mouths speak.* Their noise is proof that your freedom has started.
