THE YORUBAS DON'T WANT THE IGBOS TO BREAKAWAY FROM NIGERIA. Here are the reasons: Written by Chief Babatunde Abiodun.
The truth is that we Yoruba people don't want Igbo people to leave Nigeria. This is the truth most of my people will not tell you. We need the Ịgbo people, yet we are afraid of their ingenuity.
A lot has happened to the Igbo people. They were kị́lled during the war. Their properties were taken. They were removed from their government jobs. Their houses, churches, markets and even farm lands were bombed, yet they are standing.
Who would have believed that Ịgbo properties were seized in Lagos in 1967, and in 4 decades later, they have virtually bought the entire Lagos, and the only thing we could do is start destroying their properties in the name of building in the wrong places. And I ask, are we not the ones who sold those places to them? Where were the government when they erected one block?
No Yoruba want Igbo people to leave Nigeria. Every Yoruba knows that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is right. They know he is fighting a genuine cause. But what happens to Lagos should Igbo get Biafra? With all the restrictions we connive with the Fulani to put against the Igbos, yet the Igbos are developing the South East at a fast rate. Tell me the South East states, Yoruba states are better than when you remove Lagos. None. These were cities bombed to the ground during the civil war, but our states were uninterrupted. How did they become more prosperous than those who stole their properties and money from the bank? How?
Who won't be jealous of the Igbo people? Tell me who? Would you believe that since after the war they haven't ruled Nigeria till today? I believe that if the Yoruba people were as industrious as the Igbo people, the Igbo people would also be jealous of them. These things are natural.
If you doubt what I am saying, then look at Lagos this Christmas. You will understand what I am saying.
Every Yoruba is aware of all I said, but they won't say it.
I just hope Ndị Igbo remain with us in Nigeria. If they ever get this their Biafra, they will in less than 10 years expose the fact that the Fulani and we have been a stumbling block to their progress. The world will see how slow we truly are.
I am sorry for being so truthful today. I am already an old man and I had to say these truths before I meet my ancestors.
