Exposé: A New Dawn for Humanities Students in Nigeria⁣

The Federal Ministry of Education has officially removed Mathematics as a compulsory requirement for admission into Arts and Humanities programmes in Nigerian universities and polytechnics.⁣

“For years, students in the humanities were unfairly burdened with a subject irrelevant to their academic path,” said Folasade Boriowo, spokesperson for the Ministry.⁣

The revised National Guidelines aim to “remove barriers while maintaining academic standards,” opening doors for thousands of budding creatives.⁣

This policy shift is not just reform—it’s liberation.⁣

Let the poets, philosophers, and playwrights rise.⁣

WAEC’s Curriculum Overhaul: A New Dawn for West African Education

In a bold stride toward modernising secondary education, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced sweeping changes to its departmental classifications and subject offerings for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This reform isn't just a cosmetic rebranding—it’s a strategic recalibration of how students are prepared for the future.

🔄 What’s Changed?

WAEC has restructured its academic departments to better reflect global educational standards and career pathways:

Science remains unchanged, continuing to offer core subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Further Mathematics.

Commercial has been rebranded as Business, now encompassing subjects such as Accounting, Marketing, Commerce, and Fashion Design Arts now referred to as Humanities, offering a rich palette of subjects including Literature in English, History, Government, and various Nigerian languages.

Additionally, WAEC has introduced a more flexible subject selection model:
- Students must take three compulsory subjects: English Language, General Mathematics, and Citizenship & Heritage Studies (formerly Civic Education).
They then choose six elective subjects from their chosen department, with the option to include interdisciplinary electives like Livestock Farming or Beauty & Cosmetology.

Educators and policymakers should embrace this change, the hope is that students will emerge not only better prepared for exams, but for life itself.

We shape the minds that shape the world,
With chalk and grace, our flags unfurled.
We light the path when roads are dim,
And fill each soul with hope and vim.

We train the hands that heal and build,
Our silent work, with purpose filled.
Though praise may fade and thanks be few,
We show up strong, steadfast and true.

Through terms and tides, we help you rise—
HAPPY TEACHERS' DAY
