Nigerian Film Corporation Mourns Nollywood Icon Charles Olumo, 'Agbako'

The Nigerian Film Corporation, under the leadership of Dr. Alli Nuhu, joins millions of Nigerians and the Nollywood community in mourning the loss of the legendary actor, Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as Agbako, who passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Dr. Nuhu expressed that Agbako's passing is a profound loss for the entertainment industry and for all who appreciated his unique contributions to Nigerian cinema.

"Agbako was more than just a Nollywood icon; he embodied cultural pride and artistic excellence. Through his unforgettable performances, he brought humor, resilience, and the vibrancy of Nigerian life to our screens, touching hearts across generations," said Dr. Nuhu.

"His unwavering dedication to the craft enriched our arts and culture, leaving an indelible legacy that will continue to inspire and resonate within Nollywood and beyond."

"On behalf of the Nigerian Film Corporation, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Nollywood community. May his legacy inspire future generations, and may his soul rest in perfect peace," the message concluded.

NFC's resolve in enhancing digital security as well as combating data loss was further highlighted today at the Transnational Education and Cooperation Programme (TNB) of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Conference in Berlin, Germany.

Dr. Ali Nuhu, NFC's Managing Director/Chief Executive in his paper, "Data Loss & NFC's Partnership with the German Government and Institutions" held conference participants spell bound, showcasing NFC's robust collaborative efforts and initiatives, which includes innovative strategies that are currently being implemented in safeguarding the nations audiovisual data.

NFC, Dr. Nuhu averred, remains committed in delivering on the management of Nigeria's audio visual assets. He commended, just as he also conveyed his appreciation to the German Government/Institutions for the sustainable partnership,support, engagements towards safeguarding Nigeria's audiovisual heritage, being undertake by NFC's National Film Video & Sound Archive (NFVSA) via it's protection, restoration, digitisation, preservation and archiving activities.

It will be recalled that the robust German Government and it's institutions collaborative partnership and support led to the birthing of the tripartite (NFC/NFI-Unijos-Geothe University) Master Degree Programme in Film Culture & Archiving Studies four years ago.
