One of the greatest misconceptions among believers is thinking that once you give your life to Christ, the flesh dies automatically. No, friendβit doesnβt.
I once met a young man who had just given his life to Christ. He was full of fire, zeal, and passion. But just a week later, he came to me, frustrated.
βWhy am I still struggling with anger and lust?β he asked.
βI thought being born again would kill all these desires.β
I smiled gently and said, βSalvation saves your spirit, not your flesh."
Yes, being born again gives you a new spirit, a renewed identity in Christ, and access to eternal life. But the fleshβthe human desires, appetites, and weaknessesβstill lives. It doesnβt disappear; it must be dealt with daily.
Apostle Paul, a man filled with the Spirit, said in 1 Corinthians 15:31, βI die daily.β
Why? Because the flesh doesn't go away on its own. It must be disciplined, submitted, crucified with Christ again and again.
Being born again is not the endβitβs the beginning of a spiritual journey. A journey where you learn to deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Jesus.
A journey where the Word of God becomes your sword against the desires of the flesh.
Your flesh still wants comfort.
Your flesh still wants attention.
Your flesh still gets angry, jealous, prideful, or lustful.
But through the Spirit, you now have the power to say no by engaging in many spiritual exercises daily.
The place of prayer is not just a place of request; it's a place where lives are transformed, a place where flesh and its desires are seriously dealt with.
This is one of the reasons you must be consistent in staying with God in the place of prayer because the secret place is the place of pruning, a place of makingβa place where flesh and its desires are dealt with.
Don't get discouraged if you're saved but still temptedβrecognize itβs normal. The battle between the Spirit and flesh is ongoing, as stated in Galatians 5:17, but you are not powerless.
You must take your place to die daily.
Discipline yourself to stay consistent in the place of prayer.
Don't forsake the gathering of God's people.
Prioritize staying, reading, studying and meditating in the Word βThe Holy Bible.
Be mindful of what how you use your five senses organ.
And trust the Holy Spirit for strength and enablement.
Salvation is the door. Discipline is the key to victory.
So, being born again doesnβt kill the fleshβbut it empowers you to conquer it.
And to fulfill your life purpose and assignments, you must keep on dieing daily.
Keep growing. Keep fighting. Youβre not alone.
May the Lord continue to strengthen you.
