VETERAN NOLLYWOOD ACTOR COLUMBUS IROSANGA PASSES AWAY AT 65
The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of veteran Nollywood actor and academic Columbus Irisoanga. The celebrated actor, known for his commanding performances and deep-rooted contributions to theatre arts, passed away on February 6, 2025.
Irosanga, a native of Okrika in Rivers State, was a distinguished scholar with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree (PhD) in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt, where he later served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts.
He rose to prominence for his unforgettable portrayal of the chief priest "Igbudu" in the 2003 Nollywood blockbuster Issakaba, a role that cemented his reputation as one of the industry's most versatile actors. Over the course of his career, Irosanga featured in more than 150 films, including 7 Kilometre, Wickedness Uncovered, Elders at War, Royal Reward, and R***d to Death. He was widely recognized for his compelling depictions of chief priests, traditional rulers, and elders.
Beyond his acting career, Irosanga was a passionate advocate for tourism as an economic driver in Rivers State. He frequently highlighted the importance of security in attracting tourists and lauded efforts to maintain peace in the region.
His outstanding contributions to Nollywood earned him multiple accolades, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards and Best Actor in Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards.
Columbus Irosanga’s death marks a significant loss to Nollywood and the academic community. His legacy lives on through his works and the countless actors and students he mentored.
