FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
● Metaphor - is a comparison made b/w things w/c are essentially not alike.
Ex: "Nobody invites Edward to parties because He is a wet blanket"
● Simile - is like a metaphor and often uses the words "like" or "as"
Ex: "Jamie runs as fast as the wind"
● Personification - when something that is not human is given human-like qualities, this is known as personification.
Ex: " The leaves danced in the wind on the cold October afternoon"
● Hyperbole - exaggerating, often in a humorous way to make a particular point is known as hyperbole.
Ex: "My eyes widened at the sight of the mile-high ice cream cones we we're having for dessert"
● Onomatopoeia - when you name an action by imitating the sound associated with it.
Ex: "The bees buzz angrily when their hive is disturbed"
● Idiom - an idiom is an expression used by a particular group of people with a meaning that is only known through common use.

● Synecdoche - a synecdoche is a figure of speech using a word/words that are a part to represent a whole.
Ex: referring to credit cards as "plastic" is a synecdoche
● Assonance - when you repeat a vowel sound in a phrase, it is an assonance.

● Metonymy - a metonymy is a figure of speech where one thing is replaced w/a word that is closely associated with it such as using "Washington" to refer to the United States .

TAUTOLOGY in English refers to the needless repetition of an idea or meaning using different words. It often occurs when the same thing is said more than once in a slightly different way, making the expression redundant. A tautology doesn’t necessarily make a statement wrong grammatically, but it adds no new meaning, and is often considered a style or communication flaw — especially in formal writing or speech.

An 18 year old boy stole a phone from a neighbour that was valued at N50,000 the boy was arrested & his poor parents were asked to pay N250,000 to free him, parents struggled & managed to raise the money for the police so as to bail out the boy, as they were driving home, the parents pleaded their son, "never should you repeat this kind of nonsense, you see how much your bad behaviour has cost us."

The boy replied Daddy don't worry ur N250,000 is here with me I stole it from d drawer when I was released"

Whenever you have a plan that you have been working on but it feels like it’s not coming together, be very sensitive with God.

Sometimes God changes directions when men aren’t willing. This is the reason why you should be consistent with God. When God moves, don’t remain where you use to be.

1. Eagles fly Alone and at High Altitudes.
They don't fly with sparrows, ravens, and other small birds.

MEANING; Stay away from narrow-minded people, those that bring you down. Eagle flies with Eagles. Keep good company.

2. Eagles have an Accurate Vision. They have the ability to focus on something as far as 5km away. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it.

MEANING; Have a vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacles and you will succeed.

3. Eagles do not Eat Dead things. They Feed only on Fresh Prey.

MEANING; Do not rely on your past success, keep looking for new frontiers to conquer. Leave your past where it belongs, in the past.

4. Eagles Love the Storm.
When clouds gather, the eagle gets excited, the eagle uses the storms wind to lift itself higher. Once it finds the wind of the storm, the eagle uses the raging storm to lift itself above the clouds. This gives the eagle an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the branches and leaves of the tree.

MEANING; Face your challenges head on knowing that these will make you emerge stronger and better than you were. We can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights.
