I just finished reading Daddy Freeze’s comments about Alex’s service of songs, and honestly, it got me thinking.
He apologized to those who were offended by his choice of outfit, explaining that he wore black because he didn’t see the dress code and, where he comes from, black is traditionally worn for mourning. He said he genuinely believed everyone was gathering to mourn the loss of a young man whose life ended too soon.
He also questioned some of the activities that took place during the event, including the preaching, musical performances, and the overall atmosphere. According to him, he expected a more solemn gathering and felt surprised by how the service unfolded. He even pointed out the irony that despite the prayers and sermon, reports emerged that phones were stolen during the event.
His comments have sparked mixed reactions online. Some people agree with his perspective and believe a funeral or service of songs should be more focused on mourning and reflection. Others argue that for Christians, a service of songs is also a celebration of the person’s life and faith, which explains the singing, worship, and joyful atmosphere.
At the end of the day, people grieve differently. What one person sees as a proper way to honor the dead may be completely different from another person’s understanding. The real question is whether there is a right or wrong way to celebrate the life of someone who has passed on.
