Benue Rep Blames State Government’s ‘Bad Politics’ For Insecurity |
Benue State lawmaker Terseer Ugbor has blamed worsening insecurity in the state on poor collaboration and “bad politics” by the Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration.
Ugbor, who represents Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in the House of Reps, made the statement on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Friday. Despite both leaders being members of the ruling APC, the lawmaker said he has never been invited to the Government House nor to critical stakeholder meetings—even as his own constituency remains under constant attack.
🔺 “There has not been much synergy… Since I became a member of the House of Reps, I have never been invited by the governor,” Ugbor said.
He added that a security committee was recently set up in his own local government—and he wasn’t invited.
📢 “It is just politics. Bad politics,” he said bluntly.
Ugbor emphasized the need for unity:
“This insecurity issue should not be politicised. We’re ready to work with the governor and all arms of government.”
🔴 Background:
Benue has seen a tragic rise in attacks, including over 50 deaths in recent weeks, particularly in Ukum and Logo LGAs, attributed to armed herdsmen.
Governor Alia has appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to act decisively.
📍Ugbor warned that over 40% of Benue’s farmland is no longer safe, threatening food security and peace.
Benue’s leaders must put politics aside—for the sake of the people.
