Ogun Police Arrest Seven Suspects, Recover Firearm and Stolen Items in Major Security Crackdown

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime with the arrest of seven suspects linked to armed robbery, house breaking, stealing, conspiracy, and other criminal activities in coordinated operations across Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba, and Agbado areas of the state.

According to the Command, operatives of the Sango-Ota Division arrested three suspects — Pelumi Akintande (21), Mojeed Sanusi (28), and Mubarak Lateef (17) — over an alleged armed robbery incident in Alasia Community. Police recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and an expended cartridge allegedly used during the operation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Owode-Egba Division arrested 22-year-old Damilare Makanjuola for alleged house breaking and stealing in Ofada. Investigations reportedly linked the suspect to several burglary cases within Sun City Estate, where electrical appliances, cash, and other valuables were stolen. The division also arrested Tijani Jubril (28) and Ezra Modi (22) after they were allegedly caught attempting to dispose of stolen electrical appliances removed from a residential property in Treasure Island Estate, Awo Village.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin (22) for allegedly causing tension around a secondary school environment while armed with a knife. Police said their swift intervention prevented a possible breach of peace and ensured the safety of students, staff, and residents in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the successful operations and appreciated members of the public for providing timely information that aided the arrests. He assured residents that the Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and sustaining peace and security across Ogun State. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Police Debunk Criminals' Bus Rumour in Ifo, Confirm Passengers Were Road Construction Workers

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a bus conveying suspected criminals was intercepted along the Ibogun Road axis in Ifo, describing the claim as false and misleading.

According to the police, security operatives responded swiftly after receiving intelligence on June 3, 2026, regarding a suspected security threat involving a bus reportedly carrying criminals in the area.

However, investigations by police surveillance and anti-robbery teams revealed that the vehicle was transporting 21 labourers employed by a construction company handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo–Ibogun Road.

The workers were reportedly stopped by some youths who suspected them of criminal activities, prompting concern among residents and the circulation of rumours on social media.

Following verification, the police confirmed that the labourers were legitimately engaged in the ongoing federal road project and had no links to any criminal activity.

To ensure their safety, police officers reassured the workers and escorted them to their designated work site.

The Command urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, tension, or the harassment of innocent citizens.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, reiterated the Command's commitment to maintaining security across Ogun State and encouraged residents to verify information through official channels before sharing it.

Ogun Police Arrest Man Over Viral Fake Kidnap, Banditry Video

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Johnson Elleh, for allegedly producing and circulating a viral video containing false claims of kidnapping and banditry activities along the Owode-Idiroko axis of the state.

According to the police, the video, which gained traction on social media, falsely portrayed a deteriorating security situation in the area and caused widespread concern among residents.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Command immediately launched an investigation after receiving the video to verify the claims made in it.

The investigation, according to the police, revealed that the video was misleading and deliberately created to generate fear, panic, and anxiety among members of the public. Authorities further established that no kidnapping or banditry incident occurred in the Owode-Idiroko area or its surrounding communities as depicted in the footage.

Police detectives subsequently identified and arrested Elleh, who was reportedly featured in the video. Preliminary findings indicated that he intentionally fabricated the narrative for attention and online content creation purposes.

The Command disclosed that the suspect confessed during interrogation to creating and sharing the false content in a bid to attract public attention and increase online engagement.

Police said his actions had the potential to disrupt public order, create unnecessary panic, and undermine confidence in the state's security system.

The suspect remains under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.

The Ogun State Police Command condemned the spread of fake news and false security alerts, warning that individuals involved in creating or sharing unverified security-related information would face legal consequences.

The Command reassured residents that Ogun State remains safe and secure, urging members of the public to rely on verified information from official sources and to continue their lawful activities without fear.

Police also reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining peace and order across the state.
