On the Wednesday of last week, something terrible happened in the family of Ebonyi State Governor. A stepbrother of Mr Governor ki.lled another stepbrother of the governor with a cutlass. Their both wives were fighting and the fight got the men involved. It was a longstanding rift. The one sta-bbed to death was selling foam mattresses in Abakaliki. This happened in the Commissioners' Quarters where some of the governor's siblings who are yet to have houses of their own live in. You know the governor's father has 21 wives and 109 children tallying with the number of the members of the Nigeria Senate.
The quarrel got to a boiling point when the other went straight to his vehicle and pulled out a cutlass and landed it on the chest of his stepbrother and got him lifeless immediately. His co**se was taken to Agbaja for burial the same day. People were barred from taking coverage of the process as it's bad news for the family. The mother of the one k.illed just reunited with the family from divorce. She was still trying to secure an apartment for her own household in the family's compound when this incident happened. The family has been hiding this from public, but not from people like me.
The resources of Ebonyi State are used to raise this superfluous extended family and the load is sapping the government of economic energy. That's not my worry; my worry is their inability to coordinate themselves and stop bringing bad image upon Ebonyi State. Loot in peace. Stop painting our image in sable emulsions. Pity this young state for once. The load of one family is stunting the growth of an entire state and the impact is felt by everyone. If this is not a wrong time to come from Ebonyi as a citizen with a gift of shame, then, when else?
