Rolls-Royce is aiming to become the UK’s most valuable company by leveraging its nuclear expertise to power artificial intelligence through small modular reactors (SMRs).

CEO Tufan Erginbilgic says the firm’s unique nuclear capabilities, already used in submarine reactors, position it to dominate the trillion-dollar SMR market, with demand projected at 400 units by 2050.

The engineering giant has secured deals to develop SMRs for the UK and Czech Republic, despite the technology still lacking an operational example, and is banking on AI’s energy needs to drive growth.

Air India will suspend its New Delhi–Washington, D.C. route from September due to a shortage of aircraft, as 26 Boeing 787-8 planes undergo upgrades until late 2026.

The suspension, compounded by Pakistan’s ongoing airspace ban on Indian carriers, leaves no direct flights between the two capitals by an Indian airline.

The ban, imposed after a deadly Kashmir attack, has cost Air India an estimated $600 million annually.

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5, a faster, more capable upgrade to the AI model powering ChatGPT, now available to both free and paid users.

CEO Sam Altman described the model as a leap toward artificial general intelligence, claiming it feels like conversing with a “PhD-level expert” rather than a college student.

GPT-5 promises improved accuracy, fewer hallucinations, and greater honesty when it cannot fulfill a request.

Key enhancements include advanced coding abilities, such as generating entire software applications, positioning GPT-5 as a major tool for developers and businesses.

Uber unveiled a $20 billion stock buyback program and projected third-quarter bookings above Wall Street estimates, driven by its growing "Uber One" loyalty program, which saw a 60% surge in members to over 36 million.

The company reported an 18.2% jump in Q2 gross bookings, fueled by strong delivery and mobility growth, with net income rising to $0.63 per share.

Uber’s strategy to boost habitual usage, including discounts and fixed-price subscriptions, is paying off, with over a third of bookings now coming from loyalty members.

Tesla has granted CEO Elon Musk 96 million new shares worth $29 billion to retain his leadership amid a legal battle over his 2018 pay package, which a Delaware court voided for being unfair to shareholders.

The new award, tied to Musk staying through 2027, aims to boost his voting power and keep him focused on Tesla’s shift toward AI and robotics, offsetting the original package if reinstated.

Mercedes-Benz has temporarily halted deliveries of its EQ electric vehicles in the U.S. due to weakening demand and high dealer inventories.

The move follows President Donald Trump's recent spending bill, which accelerated cuts to EV tax credits, prompting analysts to lower 2024 U.S. EV adoption forecasts.

A company spokesperson stated the pause aligns with current market conditions, though CEO Ola Kaellenius remains optimistic about long-term EV growth, despite a 25% drop in battery-electric sales last year.
