PlasticWize is a flagship initiative by my, NGO, U-recycle Initiative Africa supporting universities to transition to plastic-free, circular economy driven campuses. We are on a mission to innovate out of plastic.
Founded in 2018, U-recycle Initiative Africa is one of Africaâs Largest youth-led environmental NGO equipping African youths to co-create a sustainable future through world-class experiential training, circular innovation, and research.
Following the success of one of our flagshipâs initiative, PlasticWize 1.0 From May 2022 â May 2023, PlasticWize 2.0âs innovation journey commenced in August 2023 upon winning grant funding from The Global environment Facility
Through PlasticWize 2.0 we are deploying various social innovations at four universities with a focus on
- equipping students and universities to be more environmentally conscious,
- reducing excessive plastic waste generation on campuses,
- influencing change in behaviour and policy gaps that fuel pollution,
- advancing circular economy solutions and
- Preventing tonnes of plastic waste from reaching landfills, streets, and ocean. See highlights of what we have done so far in the video attached.
Recently, leveraging GAMIFICATION, TECHNOLOGY, RESEARCH, and COMMUNITY BUILDING, we relaunched our first-of-its-kind gamified web-app, the Challenge.
At this time, Over 1,000 students and counting across universities in Nigeria have signed up for the free nationwide 10-day challenge, which starts today. Itâs been demanding, but the impact ahead is worth it
Weâre just getting started for the year and Weâve got more innovation up our sleeves in 2026.
