LagosMums

LagosMums Parenting resource and community for mums, dads, parents, and caregivers. It takes an e-village!

Lagos Mums is an online community where mums can meet; ask questions; give advice; a place where they can dialogue. Bonds can be made, find that shopping deal, find that store with that LBD, discuss nanny issues, talk about schools, discover events around the city and talk about finances and career…The Lagos Mum today is an internet warrior, bb toting, laptop carrying; and that led to the birth of Lagos Mums, an online community as the destination for information and answers on the go.

Before you call your child lazy, pause and look a little closer. 🤍

Sometimes what looks like laziness may be overwhelm, fear of failure, lack of clarity, or simply struggling to know where to start.

That doesn’t mean children don’t need discipline, routines, or accountability. It means we can hold those expectations while also trying to understand what’s getting in the way.

The goal isn’t to do everything for them. It’s to help them develop the skills to start, persist and follow through.

Sometimes, changing the question can change the conversation.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted to say, “My child is just lazy.”

We need to talk about the angry parent.

The parents whose default is anger and who makes every mistake feel like a crime. In the long run it might end up as grown children who do not choose to spend time with you.

Proverbs 15:1 said it before any parenting book did “wrath stirs up strife a gentle answer doesn’t”

🎥

Save this for the next time you feel the anger rising. Send it to a parent who’s working on this too.

How Can Parents Ensure Their Children Are Getting a Good Education?

🕒 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM WAT | Thursday

A good education goes beyond what happens inside the classroom. Parents also play an important role in supporting their children’s learning, choosing the right school and making sure their educational needs are being met.

But what should parents really look out for when it comes to their child’s education?

Join and our guest Mrs Adunola Johnson-Davies, Head of School , as they unpack:

🔹 What makes a good education for children
🔹 How parents can know if their child is truly learning
🔹 The role parents should play in their child’s education
🔹 What to look for when choosing a school
🔹 How parents and teachers can work together for better outcomes
🔹 Signs that a child may need more support in school

This is more than a conversation about academics. It’s about understanding how parents can actively support their children’s learning, growth and future.

Your child may be tech-savvy, but that doesn’t always mean they’re scam-savvy. 📱

Online scams can look exciting, urgent, or completely normal. A fake giveaway, a message from a “friend,” or a convincing login page can easily catch a child off guard.

That’s why online safety isn’t just about telling children what not to click. It’s about teaching them how to pause, question what they see, and ask for help when something feels wrong.

And remember, children are not the only ones who can be targeted. Create a family habit of verifying unusual messages and requests before acting.

Swipe through for simple ways to help your child stay safer online.

Save this for later and share it with another parent. 🤍

Your child is not a miniature adult. 🤍

Sometimes, we expect children to manage their emotions, make good decisions, and respond calmly because “they should know better.”

But knowing better and being able to do better are not always the same thing.

Children are still developing the skills they need to navigate emotions, relationships, boundaries and everyday challenges.

That doesn’t mean we excuse difficult behaviour. It means we teach, guide, and correct with their developmental stage in mind.

Parenting is not about expecting adult maturity from a child: It is about helping them gradually grow into it.

What’s one behaviour you’ve learned to see differently as your child grows?

The world is changing. Is our parenting changing with it? 👀

Our children are growing up in a world of social media, AI, constant information, changing career paths and challenges many of us never experienced as children.

The goal isn’t to throw away everything we were taught. Many of those lessons still matter. But we also need to ask: Are we giving our children the skills they need for the world they will actually live in?

Beyond good grades, children need to learn how to think critically, communicate, adapt, manage emotions, navigate technology and make responsible decisions.

Preparing a child for the future isn’t just about teaching what worked yesterday. It’s about equipping them to confidently navigate tomorrow.

As the world changes, our parenting has to grow with it too.
