Breaking News: Two Injured as Mini Truck Loaded With Perishables Topples on Third Mainland Bridge

–Lagos Reporters

At least two people were injured on Sunday morning after a loaded mini truck carrying perishable goods fell on its side on the Third Mainland Bridge near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a series of updates shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, noting that the accident involved a lone vehicle heading inward the Island.

According to the agency, the mini truck has since been recovered, although the process of transferring the perishable goods to another vehicle was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

“The vehicle involved in the earlier reported accident on the Third Mainland Bridge by Unilag waterfront inward the Island has been finally recovered. Trans loading of the goods is yet to be completed as we await another truck to complete the trans loading,” LASTMA stated.

Footage released by the traffic authority showed the truck lying on its side, while officials and workers were seen moving the goods into another vehicle in a bid to clear the road and restore free traffic flow.

In an earlier update, LASTMA disclosed that two casualties were recorded in the accident, adding that prompt measures were taken to minimise traffic disruption on the busy bridge.

“Efforts are ongoing to transload the fallen goods into another vehicle while evacuation of the mini truck is expected to follow immediately. Traffic is under control by our personnel, with the assistance of the Police,” the agency said.

Motorists were advised to remain calm and cooperate with traffic officials as clearance operations continued.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details emerge.

Breaking News: Wasiu Ayinde Writes Ogun Govt, Accuses Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Plot to Exclude Him From Awujale Selection

–Lagos Reporters

Popular Fuji musician and Olori Omooba of Ijebu land, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM1, has written to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, alleging that he is being deliberately sidelined from the ongoing process to select the next Awujale of Ijebu land.

Ayinde, in a petition dated January 8, 2026, accused the Fusengbuwa ruling house next in line to produce the monarch of taking actions that allegedly violate the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State. He claimed the moves were designed to disenfranchise him from contesting for the revered throne.

The letter, written on his behalf by his lawyer, Dr. Wahab Sh*ttu, SAN, was addressed to Governor Abiodun and outlined what the Fuji star described as procedural irregularities in the selection process.

According to the petition, the contest for the Awujale stool has attracted over 60 aspirants, with Ayinde formally declaring his interest. However, the Fusengbuwa family has maintained that KWAM1 is not a member of the ruling house and is therefore ineligible to participate in the exercise.

Before writing to the governor, Ayinde had approached the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu Ode, seeking an interim injunction to restrain Governor Abiodun and six others from continuing with the selection process. The court, however, dismissed the application, ruling that it lacked merit. The musician later withdrew the suit without publicly stating his reasons.

In his latest letter, Ayinde disclosed that the Ijebu Ode Local Government, via a letter dated January 6, 2026, signed by its Secretary, Oke Adebanjo, had approved the commencement of the selection process by the ruling house.

He expressed surprise that while members of the Fusengbuwa family were preparing for a general meeting, the family’s Public Relations Officer, Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, allegedly issued a notice directing aspirants to collect nomination forms and appear before a screening committee.

The screening committee, according to Ayinde, is chaired by Prince Alhaji Mitiu Adenuga. He further alleged that the directive fixed the nomination exercise for Monday, January 12, 2026, while also stating that the process would be conducted by delegates to be selected at a meeting scheduled for January 10, 2026.

Ayinde argued that the sequence of events was confusing, contradictory, and contrary to established laws guiding traditional chieftaincy matters in Ogun State.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ogun State Government nor the Fusengbuwa ruling house had officially responded to the allegations.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor developments surrounding the Awujale succession process and provide updates as the story unfolds.

Breaking News: 56 Arrested as Lagos Environmental Taskforce Clears Criminal Hotspots Along Akowonjo–Cele Axis

–Lagos Reporters

No fewer than 56 suspects have been arrested following a major clean-up and enforcement operation carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce along the Akowonjo Road by Cele Bus Stop, an area recently identified as a hub of environmental violations and criminal activities.

The operation, conducted as part of the state government’s ongoing drive to restore order and safety across public spaces, followed reports that large sections of the road had been taken over by illegal beer parlours, open drug peddling and the activities of criminal elements. Taskforce officials observed that the widespread obstructions had severely disrupted traffic flow and posed security risks to commuters and residents.

Confirming the development, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the enforcement exercise was aimed at reclaiming the area from environmental abuse and preventing the escalation of criminal activities. He noted that the taskforce moved decisively to clear all forms of violations of the state’s environmental laws during the operation.

According to the commissioner, all chairs, tables and other makeshift structures unlawfully occupying the road were removed and seized, allowing for the restoration of free movement along the corridor. The exercise also led to the arrest of 56 suspects linked to the illegal activities observed in the area.

Wahab disclosed that the arrested suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as possible, stressing that the state government would not tolerate actions that endanger public safety, undermine environmental standards or obstruct road usage.

The clean-up operation forms part of a broader strategy by the Lagos State Government to sanitize the environment, improve urban security and ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations across the metropolis.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor enforcement activities across the state and keep the public informed of further developments.

Breaking News: Relief for Residents in Ibeju-Lekki as 800-Metre Lakowe–Losoro Link Road Nears Completion, Olowa Speeds Up Delivery

–Lagos Reporters

Work on the Lakowe–Losoro Link Road has reached an advanced stage, with the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government intensifying construction efforts to ensure the project is completed and delivered to residents in the shortest possible time.

The road project, initiated by the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, was introduced to address long-standing access challenges and persistent flooding affecting daily movement and commercial activities within the Lakowe and Losoro axis. The intervention is now reshaping mobility and drainage infrastructure in the area.

Construction commenced in September 2025 following an official flag-off performed by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, on behalf of the Council Chairman. The initial design proposed a 400-metre access road intended to open up critical routes leading to community facilities and market areas.

However, after technical reviews and on-site assessments, the local government approved a major expansion of the project. Originally designed to cover 400 metres, the access road will now span 800 metres, ensuring direct linkage to the Lagasa Primary Canal. The extension is expected to significantly improve drainage flow, prevent erosion, and enhance the durability of the road infrastructure, which serves as a major route for residents, traders, and commercial operators.

Construction activities have progressed to the drainage phase, a key component of the project. One side of the drainage channel has been completed, while work continues steadily on the remaining section. Contractors have increased the pace of work to overcome terrain challenges and seasonal weather conditions.

Council officials have confirmed that the road is nearing completion, with delivery expected soon. Upon completion, the project is projected to reduce travel time, ease movement during the rainy season, and support economic growth within the Lakowe and Losoro communities.

The Lakowe–Losoro Link Road is a core component of Hon. Olowa’s S.H.I.E.L.D. development agenda, which prioritises resilient, inclusive and sustainable infrastructure across Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.

As construction enters its final stages, anticipation continues to build among residents and stakeholders. Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor progress on the project and keep the public informed.

A suspected fake products syndicate has been exposed at the popular Alaba International Market in Lagos State after operatives were caught printing LG logos on thousands of counterfeit television cartons.

In a video obtained by Lagos Reporters, the suspects were seen manually stamping the LG brand on numerous cartons meant for 45-inch and 55-inch television sets, believed to be fake products prepared for sale to unsuspecting customers.

The footage, which has since circulated widely, shows stacks of empty cartons as the counterfeiters carefully imprint the LG logo, giving the fake televisions the appearance of genuine products.

A voiceover in the video narrated the discovery, saying, “So, yesterday I was in Alaba… and I came across this guy printing the LG logo on all these new TVs.”

The narrator further claimed that over 3,000 cartons of counterfeit televisions were found inside the shop, raising fresh concerns about the scale of fake electronics flooding the Lagos market.

The voice in the video also warned prospective buyers, especially those shopping at Alaba International Market, to exercise extreme caution when purchasing LG televisions, noting that many of the products on display may be fake despite their branded packaging.

Alaba International Market is widely known as a major hub for electronics in Nigeria and across West Africa, but it has also been repeatedly linked to the sale of counterfeit goods.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from market authorities or relevant regulatory agencies regarding the incident.

Breaking News: Lagos Council chairman Abdulahi Olowa Intensifies Mandatory Registration of Okada Riders to Boost Security in Ibeju-Lekki

–Lagos Reporters

The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has launched a compulsory registration exercise for all commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders operating within the council area, as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve regulation of the informal transport sector.

As part of the sensitisation drive, council officials took the campaign directly to various Okada riders’ parks in Awoyaya, Abule Parapo and Gbetu, educating operators on why the registration is mandatory. The team explained that all riders must register to operate legally within Ibeju-Lekki, presenting either a National Identification Number (NIN), Voter’s Card, or a valid rider’s licence. Non-Nigerian riders were also informed that they must provide valid immigration permits before they can be registered.

According to the local government, the initiative followed recent security briefings and strategic engagements with heads of security agencies, aimed at addressing emerging security concerns linked to the activities of unregistered motorcycle operators.

Lagos Reporters earlier reported that the mandatory registration, which commenced on December 29, 2025, initially began at a designated registration centre in Abijo GRA but has since been extended across communities within the local government. Officials are now moving from area to area to capture riders and further sensitise them on the importance of complying with the directive for security and public safety reasons.

Under the programme, all registered Okada riders will be issued official identification and unique stickers to be affixed to their motorcycles, enabling easy identification and verification by security agencies.

The council said the exercise is designed to promote accountability, curb criminal activities, and ensure the safety of residents and commuters who rely heavily on commercial motorcycles for transportation.

The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has urged all riders to comply promptly with the directive, warning that defaulters will face sanctions in line with existing laws and regulations.

Officials described the registration drive as part of the Olowa administration’s broader commitment to safeguarding lives and property while creating a safer and more organised transport system across Ibeju-Lekki.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor the registration exercise and provide updates as events unfold.

Breaking News: Outrage as Lagos Govt Begins Demolition in Makoko, Thousands Feared Homeless

–Lagos Reporters

There was widespread outrage on Wednesday as the Lagos State Government commenced the demolition of parts of Makoko, the iconic waterfront and floating community in Lagos, leaving thousands of residents homeless and without means of livelihood.

Makoko, home to fishermen, traders and artisans, was thrown into chaos as structures were pulled down, forcing residents to flee with their belongings. Many families, including women and children, were seen stranded, unsure of where to seek shelter.

Residents who spoke with Lagos Reporters expressed deep fears that the exercise may extend beyond the affected areas. Some community members raised alarm, claiming they were informed by an official that the entire Makoko community may eventually be demolished.

“Our fear is that this is just the beginning. We were told that the whole of Makoko is going down. Where do they expect us to go?” a distressed resident said.

Tension escalated during the demolition as police officers reportedly fired teargas to disperse residents who protested the exercise. The teargas reportedly affected many people, causing panic, restlessness and forcing others to run for safety.

Community leaders and rights advocates have condemned the demolition, calling on the Lagos State Government to provide clarity on the exercise, halt further demolitions and put humane resettlement plans in place for affected residents.

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Government had yet to issue an official statement addressing the demolition, the use of teargas, or the fate of displaced residents.

Breaking News: APC Vows to Block Impeachment Move Against Fubara, Deputy

–Lagos Reporters

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has strongly opposed the impeachment move initiated by the State House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, vowing to resist any attempt to destabilise the state government.

The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy over alleged misconduct. According to legislative sources, the impeachment notice is expected to be formally issued to the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.

However, the Rivers APC swiftly kicked against the move, describing it as unacceptable and politically motivated. In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the APC rejected the impeachment process in its entirety.

“Our position as at today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” the statement read.

The party warned that it would be wrong to allow internal political disputes to threaten the stability of the state, stressing that lingering conflicts should not be imported into the APC-led government.

“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party,” Nwauju added.

The Rivers APC further assured residents that it would take all necessary steps to protect the administration from political instability.

“We will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised,” the statement said.

As tensions rise at the Rivers State House of Assembly, political observers say the coming days will be critical in determining whether the impeachment process will proceed or be halted amid mounting opposition.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor developments surrounding the Rivers State political crisis and bring updates as events unfold.

Breaking News: Rivers Assembly begins impeachment proceedings against Fubara

–Lagos Reporters

The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with Speaker Martins Amaewhule describing the governor as “a mistake” and accusing him of gross misconduct and actions allegedly inimical to democratic governance in the state.

The move followed a sudden decision by the Assembly to reverse its earlier plan to resume plenary on January 26, opting instead to reconvene on Thursday, January 8, 2026, where the impeachment process was initiated.

During the plenary session presided over by Speaker Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a formal notice of allegations signed by 26 lawmakers. The notice accused Governor Fubara of several constitutional breaches, including financial impropriety and refusal to comply with legislative requirements.

Among the allegations, the lawmakers accused the governor of converting state funds into foreign currency and allegedly paying individuals from Abuja to lobby President Bola Tinubu to prevail on the Assembly not to summon him for the presentation of the 2026 budget.

Amaewhule disclosed that the notice of allegations would be served on the governor within seven days, in line with constitutional provisions, stressing that the impeachment process had officially begun.

“The process of impeachment is on. Having received the notice, my responsibility is to transmit it as required by law, and we must allow due process to take its course,” the Speaker said.

He warned that any attempt by the governor to present the 2026 appropriation bill or the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework while the allegations were under investigation would not stop the impeachment process.

According to Amaewhule, the central issue remains the governor’s persistent refusal to present a budget to the Assembly.

“The particulars of gross misconduct have a lot to do with refusal to present a budget and spending outside the appropriation law,” he stated.

He further declared that Rivers State was in an unprecedented situation, claiming that Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, were the only sub-national executives in Nigeria yet to present a 2026 appropriation bill.

“Siminalayi Fubara is a mistake; Rivers State has never had it this bad. In the entire country, they are the only ones who have not presented a 2026 budget,” Amaewhule said.

The Speaker also accused the governor of undermining the legislature, alleging that Fubara had repeatedly boasted of seeking presidential intervention to restrain the Assembly and had referred to the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly as a “toothless bulldog.”

“This is a sad commentary for our democracy,” Amaewhule added, describing the governor and his deputy as “a threat to democracy” if allowed to remain in office.

He noted that several efforts had been made to resolve the political crisis in the state, including meetings involving President Bola Tinubu and former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, but said the governor’s refusal to present the budget ultimately triggered the impeachment move.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor developments in Rivers State and provide updates on the unfolding impeachment process.

Breaking News: Massive Refuse Submerges Agboju Bus Stop Along Badagry Expressway as Illegal Roadside Trading Fuels Waste Crisis, Residents Demand Urgent Action

–Lagos Reporters

Massive heaps of refuse have taken over the popular Agboju Bus Stop, also known as Agboju Market, along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos, triggering serious environmental and public health concerns among residents, commuters, and road users.

An on-the-ground investigation by the Lagos Reporters team revealed that the refuse, which has stretched across both sides of the busy bus stop, is largely linked to illegal roadside trading activities in the area. Traders operating directly on the road were observed dumping waste indiscriminately on the carriageway, particularly after market days, leaving the environment filthy and traffic flow severely disrupted.

A resident of the area told Lagos Reporters that the situation worsens after every market day. “Once the market closes, the traders dump their waste on the road. By morning, the whole place is covered with dirt and emits a foul smell,” the resident lamented.

While speaking with Lagos Reporters, one of the traders claimed that traders pay levies to officials to operate along the road. However, roadside trading remains illegal under Lagos State laws, as it poses safety risks, obstructs free movement, and contributes significantly to environmental degradation.

Efforts by Lagos Reporters to reach officials of the Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for comments on the allegations proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

This incident comes weeks after Lagos Reporters previously reported the resurgence of massive refuse heaps along the Badagry Expressway corridor from Mile 2 to Iyana Iba. Although enforcement teams, including operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), had earlier cleared the affected areas, investigations reveal that violators have returned and refuse has once again overtaken parts of the road.

Concerned residents are now urging the Lagos State Government, environmental agencies, and Oriade LCDA authorities to take urgent and sustained action to enforce environmental laws, curb illegal roadside trading, and restore cleanliness to the area.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor the situation, investigate environmental violations, and hold relevant authorities and offenders accountable in the interest of public safety and a cleaner Lagos.
