WE ARE ALL STRONGLY IN SUPPORT OF GOV ENO’S PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT
- PERSONAL AIDES

By Mary Martins

All personal aides to the Akwa Ibom State Governor are solidly behind him and are fully ready to celebrate the new political course of progress charted by Pastor Umo Eno,PhD.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr Essien Ndueso, stated this in a media interview in Uyo.

Dr. Ndueso, who is also the Dean of the College of Personal Aides, maintained that all his colleagues, including senior special assistants, special assistants and personal assistants to the Governor, have pledged their fidelity to the renewed hope/ARISE Agenda united for progress.

“As we speak, the Governor’s aides will all be present at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday to celebrate their boss and his peaceable disposition, which has united the State and positioned it for even greater advancement”.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso, described the Governor’s move as “a welcome development that aligns Akwa Ibom State with the government at the center.”

“The Governor has truly lived up to his promise of uniting Akwa Ibom State and reconciling all the diverse interests. This is about the Akwa Ibom Project — a unified front for the common good,” Dr. Ndueso emphasized.

In what is set to be a high-profile ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside the Senate President, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, will officially receive Governor Umo Eno into the APC at the rally.

“Pastor Umo Eno is not one to switch parties in secrecy. He wants the people to witness this historic movement and understand the long-term benefits of aligning with the center,” he said.

Dr. Ndueso expressed unwavering loyalty to the governor, stating that his decision to follow Governor Eno to the APC was based on a deep belief in the governor’s vision and performance under the Arise Agenda.

“I have been with the Governor from the trenches. Leaving his government now would mean I no longer believe in his ability to deliver. But I do now more than ever,” he affirmed.

While acknowledging the legacy of previous PDP administrations in the state including massive road projects and industrial strides, Dr. Ndueso insisted that the synergy with the federal government will multiply the pace and scale of development.

He cited instances where initiatives were stifled in the past due to political polarization, including the controversial cancellation of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s planned commissioning of the Coconut Refinery in 2022 during Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

“You can recall that the Vice President had to call off his intended inauguration of the Coconut Oil Factory, after the APC in the State complained that it was a subtle campaign for the PDP ahead of the 2023 elections.

“The VP called off the event and rather went on to have political consultations with his party members, thereby Akwa Ibom missing its opportunity of committing the federal government to support for the project.

“Akwa Ibom contributes significantly to the federal purse as Nigeria’s highest oil-producing state yet, we’ve not benefitted enough due to political differences and this move seeks to end that,” he noted.

“Look at all the investments drive of the immediate past Government of Mr Udom Emmanuel,CON. He built the highest number of roads in the history of the State, the longest stretches of dual carriage ways and the longest bridges such as the Afe Uko Ntighe and Ikot Oku Ikono; and attracted all the industries out of his own ingenuity and with no support from the federal government.

“Now that Pastor Eno is aligning the state with the center it means the development will triple. If we were recording progress in an arithmetic progression, henceforth it will be in a geometric progression because of the anticipated unbiased support from the federal government”

He described the alignment as strategic, as it will open doors for federal agencies like the NDDC to collaborate freely with the state without fear of political backlash.

Dr. Ndueso mentioned that his local government which holds over 40% of Nigeria’s oil and gas reserves is optimistic that this transition will attract long-awaited attention and federal projects.

Sharing a personal reflection, he further explained that the governor’s ideology, like that of King Solomon in the Bible, is rooted in peace choosing reconciliation and unity over conflict.

And like Solomon’s reign of peace that enabled development, Governor Umo Eno, he said, seeks to foster an atmosphere where growth can thrive.

He dismissed criticisms of the defection, noting that opposition is a natural component of democracy.

Citing the Individual Differences Theory, he reasoned that “no two individuals think alike, even twins don’t think alike. So we expect some dissenting voices. But overall, the people are happy.”

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of Saturday’s event, calling it a monumental celebration that will attract people from across Nigeria.

‎AKWA IBOM ARTISANS OFFERS FREE SKILLS ACQUISITION PROGRAM TO TACKLE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

‎...Over 20 centers active across Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, Oron LGAs in 18-month vocational training campaign

‎More groups have embraced the youth empowerment drive of Governor Umo Eno, by training young people and equipping them in various skills to be drivers of the economy.

The latest is the Akwa Ibom State Artisans Association has commenced a free, state-wide Skills Acquisition Programme, which aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

‎The programme, which commenced two months ago, is already in full swing across four major zones of the state.

These zones are in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, and Oron. The training is expected to run for a period of one year and six months.

‎So far, over 20 training centers have been activated with over 150 registered trainees.

The initiative offers a range of high-demand vocational skills aimed at equipping youths and unemployed graduates with tools for self-reliance and enterprise.

‎Speaking during an inspection tour of the training centers in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene, the President of the Artisans Association, Comrade Samuel Ekpenyong, emphasized that the initiative is more than just a vocational scheme but a vision rooted in purpose, compassion, and responsibility.

‎“This programme is not just about learning a trade. It is about changing lives, restoring hope, and creating pathways out of poverty. It has been a lifelong burden I’ve carried, a personal mission to empower our young people.

‎"When I shared the vision with our executive members and stakeholders, everyone was eager to come on board.

We saw it as our civic duty, and a direct way to support Governor Umo Eno’s people-centered ARISE Agenda.”

‎Mr. Ekpenyong further relayed that the training program is set to offer skills in upholstery, event management and decoration, fashion design, catering services, hairdressing and cosmetology, as well as solar installation. These are trades that are increasingly in demand and hold immense potential for self-employment and small business growth.

‎He further stated that the curriculum was carefully curated to match market realities. “We chose these particular skill areas after analyzing the trends in job creation and self-employment opportunities. We want to empower our youth to not only learn, but earn and build sustainable livelihoods.”

‎Conveying their satisfaction on the trainees, Mrs Glory Bassey and Ezinne Eke, expressed enthusiasm and commitment to the cause, seeing the program as a long-awaited platform to give back to society.

‎"The trainees have shown incredible enthusiasm. They are serious about the learning process, and it motivates us as trainers to give our very best. It was a challenge at first - especially considering the logistics and cost - but seeing the impact so far, we know it is worth it.”

‎Additionally, the program has also started yielding early success stories as several beneficiaries, especially young people, spoke with excitement and gratitude. They highlighted the life-changing impact the training is having on them.

‎“I've been part of the catering training for two months now, attending classes four times a week. I've learned how to make puff-puff, chin-chin, buns, and cakes. It has given me hope and something to look forward to,” Destiny Udo, a female trainee in Uyo said.

‎Another beneficiary undergoing training in solar installation added, “Before now, I had no clue about any skill. Today, I have the skill to install solar panels. This is a dream I never thought possible and I am thankful to the Association for this opportunity.”

‎Accompanying the President on the facility tour was Mrs. Mercy Akpan, the Media Head of the Association. She reiterated the Association's commitment to sustaining the momentum of the initiative across all zones.

‎“This program is grassroots-driven, but with statewide impact. We are not waiting for everything to come from the government, we are taking responsibility as artisans to bridge the gap in our communities.”

‎With youth unemployment remaining a pressing challenge in the country, initiatives like this represent a proactive and inspiring model of community development.

‎The Akwa Ibom State Artisans Association has not only stepped up to train the next generation of skilled professionals but has also shown that real change often starts with individuals who are willing to take action for the good of others.

‎As the program progresses, expectations are high that it will create ripple effects - birthing small businesses, increasing household incomes, and contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic transformation of Akwa Ibom State.

A Covenant of Purpose: Governor Umo Eno’s Strategic Realignment and the National Imperative

It was a day when history and purpose converged, closing one chapter and opening another in bold, progressive print.

On Friday, June 6, 2025, the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo, Akwa Ibom’s iconic House of elegance and political gravitas overflowed with a diverse and expectant crowd. From early morning, waves of people streamed in: party loyalists, faith leaders, youth representatives, women leaders, and Nigeria’s political elite.

At the center of it all stood Governor Umo Eno, declaring a conscious, deliberate transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was not an impulsive decision, but one forged through months of deep consultation with stakeholders across the state and nation.

Perhaps the gravity of the day was best captured in the tone-setting remarks of Ambassador Assam E. Assam (SAN). The respected elder statesman called the move “a masterstroke in pragmatic leadership and statesmanship.” With the weight of experience and clarity of purpose, he urged Akwa Ibomites to “look beyond partisanship and behold purpose,” framing the day not as an end, but the beginning of a new collective possibility. His words set the tone: measured, hopeful, and decisive.

What marked this as no ordinary realignment was the convergence of several serving Progressive Governors, who traveled to Uyo to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with one of their own. Leading the delegation was Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum. With him were Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Prince Bassey Otu (Cross River), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo).

Their presence was not just symbolic, it was strategic, and a full-throttle endorsement of national alignment.

By midday, the Banquet Hall reverberated with chants of “On your Mandate we shall stand!”
Then came the defining moment.
Governor Umo Eno, calm and resolute, stood beneath a banner of unity and addressed his people. Quoting the Dalai Lama, he spoke of embracing change while holding firm to one’s values.

“Though I have changed my political affiliation,” he said, “my values, my moral fibre, and the fundamental principles I have nourished and lived by remain unchanged and sacrosanct.”

“Why am I in the APC?” he asked. “The answer is short and simple: Enlightened State Interest and the need to align our state with the Centre to attract more national benefits.”

Akwa Ibom, as the highest contributor to the nation’s economic wealth, especially in oil and gas, cannot afford to operate at cross-purposes with the Federal Government, which holds the levers of national resource allocation. “Strategic alignment,” he said, “is not submission, it is smart governance.”

To unlock opportunities in infrastructure, industrialization, and human capital development, Akwa Ibom must sit at the decision-making table, not stand outside the room.

Governor Eno praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, describing him as “a man of courage and vision” whose economic reforms, though bold, are beginning to yield long-term benefits. He recalled his admiration for Tinubu’s governance legacy in Lagos and offered unreserved support for the President’s second-term ambition in 2027.

In the same breath, he voiced strong support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s continued leadership of the National Assembly in 2027, asserting that Akwa Ibom stands to gain by having strong presence and voice in both the executive and legislative arms of the national government.

Governor Eno’s move, while tactical , is deeply strategic, rooted in a long-term vision to secure Akwa Ibom’s relevance in the evolving political landscape of Nigeria.

The symbolic presentation of the APC broom, performed by Senator Uzodinma amid thunderous applause, marked more than just a party switch. It was the culmination of a coordinated, calculated movement of vision and values.

One by one, political structures across the state pledged support. The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Udeme Otong; National Assembly members, led by Senator Ekong Sampson; members of the State Executive Council, led by Prince Enobong Uwah; local government chairmen, led by ALGON Chair Dr. Uwemedimo Udo; as well as youth and women groups, all declared solidarity:“We stand with our Governor. We move with him.”

Amidst the euphoria, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, APC State Chairman, stood confidently, not as a lone opposition figure, but as host to a political homecoming. His message was clear: “The APC in Akwa Ibom has opened its arms wide. And the state has walked in, strong.”

In a goodwill message on behalf of the Senate President, his wife , Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio described the Governor’s action as “courageous, visionary, and unifying.”

Throughout his address, Governor Eno assured the people that the ARISE Agenda remains unshaken and on course.
“Political parties are just vehicles,” he said. “Good governance is the destination. Akwa Ibom will become a model of how to build beyond partisanship, how to work together, stay together, and grow together.”

Politics, he emphasized, should not be seen as war, but as a game of strategy, much like soccer .
Sometimes, teammates during the club season wear different jerseys during national duty. But the goal is always clear: to win, to raise the banner, to make your people proud.

Governor Eno has not only demonstrated a clear understanding of the political game and changing times ; he has shown smart political sagacity, inclusive, strategic, and forward-thinking leadership . And Akwa Ibom will be better for it.

The signs are unmistakable: the political winds have shifted in his favour. As 2027 approaches, Governor Eno stands tall—not just as Governor, but a performer who has aquintted himself creditably through his highly impressive performance in the last two years and as a new national political force, with expanding goodwill, broad alliances, and a governance track record rooted in vision and humility.

In june 6, the Governor closed with a whisper of quiet poetry:
Let us arise together, like rivers finding the ocean,
Not to fight the old, but to build the new.

With that, a new chapter in Akwa Ibom’s political journey began. A grand rally is expected in the coming days to formally welcome Governor Eno and his supporters into the progressive fold.
The winds have shifted. The sails are up. Akwa Ibom is charting a bold new political course embedded in unity, national relevance, and full visibility for its people.

BEING THE SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, PhD, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT FROM THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) TO THE ALL PROGRESSIVES PARTY (APC)- UYO- JUNE 6, 2025

PROTOCOL

1. It was Dalai Lama, one of the world’s most highly admired moral voices who spoke so eloquently about change and the constancy of values. Dalia had advised the world to “Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.”

2. Today, fellow Akwaibomites, we are gathered here to witness change while equally affirming the constancy of our collective values and defining ethos as a State.

3. For some time now, the political space particularly in this State and the Nation in general have been awash with the news of my likely movement from the PDP, the platform that had provided the levers and ladder of my political ascendancy to the position of Governor of this State. The discussions have elicited various layers of analysis in the process.

- 2 -

4. Today, I am here to answer some of those nagging questions. Like the Dalai Lama had said, we should always be open to change but not let go of our shared values.

5. Earlier this morning, I submitted my formal Letter of Resignation from the PDP to my Ward Chairman, same copy was sent to both the State Chairman as well as the National Chairman. I have therefore, decided to Progressively move to the All Progressive Congress, the (APC).

6. Standing before you today, I make bold to state categorically that, though I have, by today’s event, changed my political affiliation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) my values, my moral fibre, the foundational principles I have nourished and lived by remain unchanged and sacrosanct.

7. Why am I in the APC, you may ask? The answer is short and simple: Enlightened State Interest predicated on the need to align our State with the Centre to attract more Federal presence.

- 3 –

That is the truth-pure and simple as well as the exercise of my fundamental Right of Association as expressed in the 1999 Constitution as Amended.

8. President Tinubu, GCFR, has possibly, in recent history of this Nation, faced the most daunting economic challenges of any leader. With boldness and deep convictions, he has stared these challenging moments head-on and came up with solutions that, though in the immediate aftermath is tough for Nigerians, but however, are beginning to bear long-lasting and sustainable effects.

9. The removal of petrol subsidy, though a hard decision, has brought more funds to subnational entities to pursue audacious projects that are positively affecting the lives of their people. Akwa Ibom State today, is more of a constructing site with many life-touching projects across the 31 Local Governments Areas. The economic fog is becoming clearer, the confidence in our economy is growing and we need to support him to finish this huge task of national re-awakening and economic renewal.

10. It is a known fact that, I have never hidden my admiration for the President and his patriotic devotion to national renewal which he is engendering today

- 4-
As a young professional working in Lagos while he was the Governor, I was amazed and fascinated by the manner he ran Lagos, and had, with focus and vision, raised the profile of Lagos State to become a leading Subnational in the country, while facing daunting challenges.

I believe he is poised to replicate the Lagos magic on a larger national scale. I therefore, have no apologies for supporting him for a second term in office to complete the reforms he has started.

11. Let me also say it here, that political parties are vehicles to run for elections. Governance in my considered opinion should be done, without rigid attachment to political labels, since these parties are not defined by ideology but by enlightened set of interests.

12. In two years, since my inauguration as Governor, I have not worn a toga of a political party rather it has been my passionate commitment to pursuing the larger interest of our State and our people. The Arise Agenda, has been our Governance Blueprint, and that’s what it will be as we make this movement. I therefore, appeal to you my people to join me in this necessary movement to align our State with the Centre and to facilitate more development to our State.

- 5 -

13. Let me add here that our dear State is nationally considered as one of the safest and peaceful States in the nation. There is an urgent need to sustain and deepen this important catalyst for growth, by not engaging in unnecessary political bickering. Peace brings development, peace brings unity and unity breeds brotherhood and inclusivity and our State is the ultimate beneficiary.

14. I have always said I will work for the unity of our State by running a bipartisan administration. This has been a well-thought-out position that was so eloquently stated in my Inaugural Speech on May 29, 2023.

15. On that historic day, I had stated thus “Elections are over, and our kindred spirit must be renewed and deepened. We are all Akwaibomites first before politics.

Politics, therefore, must not separate or sever the ties of our brotherhood, common heritage and aspirations. I pledge to you, that I will be Governor for all Akwaibomites irrespective of political persuasion or affiliations”

- 6 -

16. Today, as I make this formal movement from the PDP to APC, I pledge to you again, my dear Akwaibomnites, that I will still run a bipartisan and inclusive governance. Akwa Ibom State, I promise you will be a model of how to work together, pray together, aspire together, dream together and achieve together without the polarising impulses of partisan politics. Political parties remain vehicles for elections. I will continue to ensure that governance is done through the prism of bipartisanship.

17. Let me end this speech with a quote from the renowned author, Julie Flygare “The secret of change is to focus all your energy not in fighting the old, but on building the new.”

18. Together, with the old and the new, we will build our dear State, with unity, with peace, with inclusivity, with love and kindred spirit in accordance with the lines in our State’s Anthem that “our dreams be ever one, rising “beyond ethnicity”, to “build with love, our Promised Land” so we may go “Forward Ever and Backward Never!! That is what I am dedicating to doing and I ask you to continue to support and pray for us.

- 7 -

19. Like the children of Issachar in 1st Chronicles Chapter 12 verse 32, were “men that had understanding of the times to know what Israel should do”” I also expect the understanding of the times we are in, and why we are doing this movement. As the children of Issachar pitched their tenth with David, for the common good of Israel, I expect unflinching loyalty of our Team- a point that is further eloquently illustrated in John 10: 27 “My sheep hears my voice, and I know them and they follow me.”

20. I am convinced the the voice I heard that led us to this day and to this movement was the right voice and I know my people will follow me and continue to give us their support.

Let us strategically Arise together, to the promise of a better, more inclusive, stronger and united Akwa Ibom State that is aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR led-Federal Government

21. To those who may be concerned by this Progressive movement, I want to assure you that I have received enormous assurances of support and seamless integration from our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,

- 8 -

The Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godwill Akpabio, GCON, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum. Those who know our dear President will attest to the fact that his words are his bond. This movement, falling on a day that we mark Sallah, is our own gift to our President and it has divine connotation

22. APC- Progress, Arise - That same God!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, God bless Akwa Ibom State and bless us all!

23. On your Mandate we shall stand, On your Mandate we shall stand, On your Mandate, On your Mandate
On your Mandate we shall stand

ON AKWA IBOM TRENDING VIDEO, MARGARET ITAUMA WROTE:

In 2024, Akwa Ibom State suffered the worst loss, when the Governor of our dear state lost his beloved wife. Her sudden demise was a tragedy that paralyzed the whole state.

Our late First Lady was a loving, caring and a humble woman.
Suffice to say, with these attributes she won the heart of our state.
In regards to the video circulating on social media about the second daughter’s reaction to her mom’s death, I would say, is part of the grieving process and she needs support for healing.

People react differently to loss. I’ve witnessed a lady from my village, who went completely mental when she lost her mom. She ran into the bush for three days and wasn’t the same.
In response to the trending video, I want to commend our State Governor for taking the bull by the horns. Reacting to the trending video today, the Governor said, “my family is intact”

In addition, we can all see on the video, his daughter is there to support him.
Please let’s respect our First Family’s loss. The content on the video is family matter and let’s stay out of it.
God bless you!
