CONGRATULATIONS TO PASTOR SAMUEL OJO (SADOL) ON HIS ELECTION AS APC CHAIRMAN, IGANDO-IKOTUN LCDA.

It is with great pleasure and a profound sense of fulfilment that I extend my sincere congratulations to my dear friend, brother, and leader, *Pastor Samuel Ojo, popularly known as Sadol, on his well-deserved election as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, Lagos State.*

This elevation is a fitting recognition of his years of dedicated, loyal and selfless service to our great Party.

Pastor Ojo has served the APC faithfully in various capacities, most recently as the General Secretary of the Party in the LCDA.

His emergence as Chairman reflects not only his competence and experience but also the confidence that Party leaders and members have in his capacity to provide effective and purposeful leadership.

Beyond politics, Sadol is a compassionate and inclusive leader whose relationships transcend religion, ethnicity, race, colour and social status.

He relates with people freely, warmly and sincerely, irrespective of their background.

My close relationship with him over the past two years, particularly through my service as an Executive Member representing Ijegun on the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, where he serves as Chairman, has afforded me the privilege of knowing him more closely.

This experience has further strengthened my admiration for him and reinforced the respect he commands among many others, owing to his exceptional character and uncommon leadership qualities.

Pastor Samuel Ojo is intelligent, patient, accommodating and a committed advocate of peace.

He is an exemplary bridge-builder, a principled progressive and a leader who understands that the collective interest must always take precedence over personal considerations.

I therefore have no doubt that Sadol is well suited to lead our great Party during this important period in the life of the APC.

As we prepare for the forthcoming general election campaigns, our Party requires a unifying leader capable of bringing all members together.

We need a leader who will treat everyone fairly and equitably, without fear or favour, while remaining firmly guided by the principles and overriding interests of the Party.

I am confident that, under his purposeful leadership, the APC family in Igando-Ikotun LCDA will become even more united, focused and strategically positioned to secure significant electoral victories for our Party in 2027.

By the special grace of Almighty God, I pray that our foremost leader and *President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will be overwhelmingly re-elected for a well-deserved second term in office.*

I also pray that the People's Choice *Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat* our Governorship candidate and other Party Candidates from the Senatorial District to the House of Representatives and the Lagos State House of Assembly, will secure massive and convincing victories across our LCDA and beyond.

Congratulations once again, my dear Chairman.

Please be assured of my unwavering support, as well as that of my friends, associates and political family within the APC, particularly in my Ijegun Ward and within my Community Development Association.

We shall stand by you and work with you as you lead our great Party through this critical and defining political season.

I pray that Almighty God will continually grant you greater wisdom, strength, courage, patience and divine guidance to discharge this enormous responsibility successfully.

Tinubu has the stronger chance of winning, whether the opposition presents a combined ticket or not. There is simply not enough trust among the leading candidates, nor is there sufficient cohesion among their supporters.

Many Southerners will naturally prefer Tinubu to complete the Southern turn, while the long-standing political apprehension surrounding the prospect of an Eastern President remains strong in parts of the far North.

Until these underlying political realities are addressed, any opposition alliance may find it difficult to overcome Tinubu’s advantage.

Atiku confused on petrol subsidy; third U-turn in one week shows he is simply playing politics

The latest comments by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on petrol subsidy raise a fundamental question: is he seriously proposing an economic policy, or is he simply playing politics with the temporary discomfort Nigerians face?

Within a week, Nigerians have heard three different explanations of what an Atiku administration would do about petrol subsidy. The confusion has now become impossible to ignore.

First, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, said Atiku would restore petrol subsidy if elected president and later phase it out. Ibe described it as a temporary intervention intended to give Nigerians and businesses room to recover.

Then came a clarification from another senior aide, Phrank Shaibu, who said Ibe’s statement was an “unauthorised and misleading characterisation” of Atiku’s position. According to Shaibu, Atiku would not set a predetermined date for ending the subsidy. Instead, it would remain until domestic refining expands, supply stabilises, competition deepens, and the market can deliver affordable prices without government support.

But just hours later, Atiku himself intervened and effectively overruled that clarification. He insisted that his position “has not changed” and that he would restore what he called a “targeted subsidy” if elected president. He also said, “I will restore targeted subsidy and put purchasing power back in the hands of Nigerians.”

This is not merely a matter of semantics. It is a serious policy contradiction.

If Atiku's position has not changed, why did one of his principal aides say the subsidy would be temporary and phased out? Why did another senior aide have to publicly disown that explanation and introduce a completely different framework based on market conditions? And why did Atiku then step in to reaffirm the original position?

Nigerians deserve clarity, not policy by trial and error.

More fundamentally, Atiku’s argument appears to misunderstand the dynamics of the petroleum market. Petrol does not become cheap simply because government orders a subsidy or because competition is expected to emerge. Several factors, including international crude oil prices, exchange rates, refining costs, transportation, distribution, and other market costs, influence pump prices.

Competition can improve efficiency and margins, but it cannot magically insulate Nigeria from global crude oil prices or other input costs.

There is also a troubling oversimplification in Atiku’s argument that “when fuel rises, transport rises. When transport rises, food rises. When food rises, families suffer.” Of course, energy and transportation costs affect food prices. But petrol prices alone have never caused food inflation. Nigerians experienced rising food prices even during the years when petrol subsidy was in place.

Agricultural productivity, insecurity, exchange rates, logistics, storage, flooding, input costs, money supply and supply constraints also matter. A serious economic programme must address these factors, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been doing for the past three years, rather than reduce the entire cost-of-living crisis to petrol prices.

We therefore urge Atiku to stop shifting positions and explain precisely what he means by “targeted subsidy”: how much will it cost, who will benefit, how will beneficiaries be identified, how will it be funded, and what objective economic conditions will determine its eventual termination?

Nigerians cannot afford another opaque and potentially costly subsidy regime dressed up in new language.

The former vice-president should be honest with Nigerians: either he has a coherent, costed, and workable petroleum policy, or he is simply playing politics with a policy that has significantly restored fiscal health to the three tiers of government and stabilised the macroeconomic environment.

The economy is too serious for policy somersaults, incoherence, destructive populism and election gimmicks.

Atiku says his subsidy will follow the barrel of crude. Is he aware that refined petrol only constitutes 45 per cent of the by-products of a refined barrel of crude? A barrel yields other products, such as aviation fuel, kerosene, and diesel, which were deregulated many years ago.

Diesel, which the Obasanjo-Atiku administration deregulated in 2004, accounts for roughly 25% of the barrel. Jet Fuel and Kerosene make up about 9% of the barrel. Kerosene and jet fuel were deregulated in 2009, and subsidies removed in 2016.

About 10% to 15% of the barrel creates base ingredients for synthetic rubber, nylon, polyester, and plastics used in everyday goods like toothbrushes, cups, and packaging.

Asphalt makes up about 2% to 4% of the barrel. Hydrocarbon Gas Liquids (HGL), like propane and butane, make up about 4%. Lubricants and Waxes constitute about 1% to 2%. Petroleum coke and sulfur form the solid residue left from refining.

Will Atiku subsidise all these by-products of the barrel as well, since kerosene is used by the underprivileged to cook, and many homes and factories use diesel to power generators and delivery trucks? And will he allow the refineries he will supply discounted crude oil to profit from 55 per cent of the by-products, while focusing subsidy only on petrol, his obsession?

The former Vice President is definitely suffering from a lack of basic understanding of his newfound policy prescription.

CELEBRATING 50 GLORIOUS YEARS OF THE GRAND CHIEF IMAM OF IJEGUN LAND.

ALHAJI FATAI AHMED OLANREWAJU

Today, we joyfully celebrate the Golden Jubilee of a man of destiny, a devoted servant of Allah, a respected Islamic scholar, and the *Grand Chief Imam of Ijegun Land, Alhaji Fatai Ahmed Olanrewaju,* who was born on 25th August, 1976, into the family of Alhaji Abdul Ahmed Olanrewaju, a renowned Muslim cleric of the Ajagun Royal Family in Ijegun. He is the sixth of his mother's eight children.

After his early education at Ijegun Primary School and Muslim College, Egbe, between 1983 and 1993, the young and spiritually inclined Fatai, who had already developed a strong foundation in Islamic teachings under the guidance and support of his Parents, proceeded to Iseyin, Oyo State, in pursuit of further knowledge in Arabic and Islamic studies. He remained there until 1997, when he returned to Lagos and enrolled at the popular Markaz Arabic School, Agege, where he completed his Arabic studies in the year 2000.

As a young Muslim cleric, Alhaji Fatai Ahmed Olanrewaju distinguished himself through honesty, discipline, humility, and an exceptional knowledge of the Holy Qur'an and Islamic teachings. His calm disposition, coupled with his principled candour, earned him the love and respect of both his Peers and Elders at the Ijegun Central Mosque.

It was therefore no surprise when, in 2006, at the youthful age of 30, he was appointed an Imam, a position he has continued to occupy with dedication, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to the service of Allah and humanity.

The celebrant is happily married and blessed with wonderful children. Beyond his role as a spiritual father and religious leader, he has consistently been at the forefront of promoting peace, unity, moral discipline, and community development.

Through his thoughtful sermons and moral guidance, he has continued to encourage individuals and the entire community to embrace the path of righteousness, peace, progress, and harmonious coexistence in Ijegun and its environs.

As we celebrate our highly revered Grand Chief Imam on the auspicious occasion of his 50th birthday, we pray that Allah, in His infinite mercy, will continue to bless him with sound health, long life, wisdom, knowledge, and greater strength for the service of Islam and mankind.

May Allah grant him many more fruitful and glorious years in good health and happiness. May He increase him in knowledge, wisdom, honour, and spiritual capacity. May his service to Allah and humanity be accepted as an act of Ibadah, and may Allah reward him abundantly in this world and in the Hereafter.

May the good works he has done, the souls he has guided, the lives he has touched, and the positive impact he has made in the service of Allah and mankind continue to speak for him. May his children and generations after him also partake in the blessings and rewards of his righteous deeds. May Allah grant him the rare privilege of enjoying the fruits of his labour, seeing his children prosper in righteousness, and reaping the reward of every good seed he has sown.

May Allah grant him a good and blessed ending whenever his earthly journey is eventually complete, and may He admit him into Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen Ya Rabbal Alamin.

We celebrate you today, our beloved Chief Imam, on this special milestone.
