SANGO is a prominent deity in the YORUBA LAND, popularly known as OBA KOSO. He is known for his powerful double axe (osè). He is considered to be one of the most powerful rulers that Yoruba land has ever had.
He is the highly revered god of Thunder, Lightning, and Electricity.
Many years ago, He was bestowed with power
by his mother's people In Nupe. His Grandfather gave him a thunderbolt Stones which he used to Summon thunder from the Sky. This power made him known as the god of fire and thunder.
Sango's royal apparel and adornment made him Stand out among the other gods.
Sango's love for RECYCLING
allowed him to infuse many accessories like cowries, broken glasses feathers, wooden combs amongst others in his regal costume.
The power entrusted on him gave room for
Smooth relationship between himself and
nature.
Sango was the third ALAFIN OF OYO. Like most Yoruba names and their meanings, "Sango means TO STRIKE"
He had 3 wives : OYA, OBA and OSUN.
OYA who he loved and became fond of, was always allowed to touch his hair, which was an abomination unfortunately she later betrayed him by revealing his secret of wizardry. 🥺
