The supporters of the leading aspirant for the Etim Ekpo/Ika State House of Assembly seat in Akwa Ibom state; Dr Abel Abraham are strongly condemning the irregularities and unfair treatment witnessed during the screening process.
We are deeply disappointed that aspirants were allegedly disqualified without clear explanations or official communication from the party leadership. Till date, even the Chief Press Secretary of the party has not officially published or signed any authentic screening result as expected.
Instead, what circulated first on social media appeared as leaked documents without the endorsement or signature of any recognized state party officer.
The screening committee only screened out six aspirants over the issue of tax clearance certificates, while several others were congratulated and encouraged to prepare for the primaries. It is therefore shocking that the final purported list suddenly recognizes only 26 “anointed” aspirants as qualified, with about 25 of them being sitting members of the House.
We seek to know:
* What criteria suddenly made some aspirants qualified and others disqualified?
* Why were aspirants who successfully passed screening later omitted without official explanation?
* Why are some individuals whose documents were allegedly incomplete now appearing on the so-called qualified list?
The people deserve transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity. Democracy should not be reduced to favoritism, imposition, and manipulation against the will of the people.
Following the peaceful protest carried out at the Etim Ekpo Local Government Council Secretariat by aggrieved supporters and community stakeholders, we are demanding the immediate release of the authentic screening report duly signed by members of the screening committee.
Until the true and verified list is officially released, we will be forced to boycott every form of election activities in our respective wards and units. We are also prepared to seek redress in the court of law over this injustice and abuse of democratic rights.
You cannot claim to preach peace, unity, and inclusion while at the same time inflicting pain on loyal party members by denying them the right to freely choose those who represent them.
We are not alone in this struggle. Thousands of aggrieved supporters stand with us, and our concerns will continue to be expressed lawfully and peacefully going forward.
We believe in peaceful protest, justice, fairness, and due process.
Release the authentic screening list signed by the screening committee.
