Tinubu Supporters Plot Fresh Strategy To Persuade Obi To Step Down

According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday 30 August 2026, the Southeast chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN) says it plans to consult prominent Igbo leaders over the 2027 presidential election, with a view to persuading Peter Obi to step down from the race and support President Bola Tinubu.

The group’s Southeast leader, Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, disclosed this in Owerri after a meeting where members discussed strategies for mobilising support for Tinubu across the five Southeast states.

Ngoforo said the organisation would reach out to the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Senator John Azuta Mbata, as well as respected elder statesmen, including Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe.

FBI MAKES U- TURN ON RELEASING TINUBU'S DOCUMENTS

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly explained why it cannot publicly release some records linked to allegations of drug trafficking involving Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, citing concerns over sensitive law enforcement techniques and the safety of individuals connected to the investigation.

According to a Daily Trust report published on Friday, August 21, 2026, the FBI made the explanation in a filing submitted to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on Thursday, August 20.

The agency reportedly asked the court for permission to provide a confidential declaration directly to the judge. The FBI argued that publicly disclosing its full reasons for withholding certain records could expose protected investigative methods and potentially endanger individuals.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has said his monthly salary is ₦503,000, lower than the ₦900,000 earned by Permanent Secretaries in the state.

Oborevwori disclosed this on Thursday during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes for Permanent Secretaries and the presentation of 12 official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in Asaba, the state capital.
