Fire Inferno Renders Many Homeless, Destroys Properties in Ibeno.
No fewer than fifteen (15) persons have been rendered homeless, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed when fire outbreak completely razed down buildings at German Street, Iwuo-Achang community in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
One of the victims of the fire outbreak, Mrs. Atim said the fire started in the early hours of today and when she saw the fire she raised an alarm by shouting "fire! fire!!" she later went to a nearby Water Well to fetch water and before she realized, fire has raised down her house and that of her neighbors.
According to her, the fire affected no fever than fifteen (15) apartments in four (4) buildings, adding that no Fire Service was on ground and all efforts to reach fire service was abortive.
Consequently, occupants tried to put out the fire, while others were busy rescuing their valuables but to no avail.
Narrating the fire incident to the Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Emma John Ibok who was at the scene of the fire Incidents with the Vice Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Ikoedem Ekong, the HOS of Ibeno Local Government Council, Prince Ndaeyo Inuaeyen, Treasure of Ibeno Local Council, members of Ibeno Local Government Transition Committee, Security personnel and media team, the woman said she has lost everything in life and there is no place for her to stay with her family.
The Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Emma John Ibok informed the victims of fire outbreak that he and members of his team where in the area to see things for themselves. He sympathized with the victims and promised to report to the relevant authorities.
He called on the relevant authorities and well meaning individuals in the society to come to aid of the affected people as Local Government Council cannot do it alone.
