Four years after the Owo Catholic Church attack, despite recent convictions, one question remains: how prepared have we become?

We dropped the ball, and now the consequences are knocking on our own door.
Will the South West finally unite to stop this madness?

The Alaafin of Oyo was not just a king but a warrior-ruler who commanded one of Africa’s most powerful empires. This colourful display from around 1901 captures the splendour of Oyo royalty, with many adorned in woven fabrics long associated with the region’s rich cultural heritage. As we admire this legacy of strength, discipline, and leadership, one can only hope that the warrior spirit that once defined Oyo is reawakened in these challenging times.

A 1900s Kanem-Bornu warrior (circa 1912) wears a Crusader-era chainmail hauberk and sword. Taken from a defeated crusader knight was probably trafficked via the ancient trans-Saharan trade routes—the same historic corridors now used by Sahel bandits to transport weapons today. He was a guard’s man of the Sheu of Bornu an empire which once stretched as far as Libya. This was how such could have reached here, this medieval armor highlights centuries of complex African military globalization and weapon migration.

The legendary “Emi Lokan” speech in Abeokuta, now remembered as one of the most defining moments by an aspirant who went on to become President, was a last stand of defiance and of standing on your rights and the law.

I must say here that the law stood tall for Asiwaju to become President. The Electoral Act required that if any aspirant didnt step down, the party must proceed through its primary process. I still believe in the laws of our land, and I know our President does too.

I am sure he will also ensure, by all means, that the same law which stood tall for him continues to stand firm for us all. That, in my view, will be one of his greatest legacies.
