AFRIMA Postpones 9th Edition To January 2026

AFRIMA, which was previously scheduled for November 2025, was postponed to January 2026 to allow broader participation and ensure a world-class experience.

The African Union Commission (AUC) and the International Executive Committee of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have postponed the 9th edition of the awards to January 2026.
__
The organisers confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, announcing that the event will now be held from Wednesday, January 7 to Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.
__
The event was earlier scheduled for November 25–30, 2025, but was rescheduled after extensive consultations with partners, artistes, and stakeholders across Africa and the diaspora.

Acting Director of Social Development, Culture and Sports at the AUC, Angela Martins, said the commission remains proud to partner with AFRIMA in promoting Africa’s creative excellence and global influence.
__
“This relationship aligns with the AU’s Cultural Policy for Africa and Agenda 2063. Both prioritise the creative economy as a driver of sustainable development, youth empowerment, and continental integration.
__
“The new dates for the 9th AFRIMA in January 2026 provide an exciting opportunity to further showcase Africa’s diversity, innovation, and unity to the world,” Martins said.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, alongside former Big Brother Naija Housemate Tuoyo Ideh, with more than 100 guests during a midnight raid of Proxy Nightclub, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The agency, in a statement signed by the agency’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, and posted via its website on Sunday, alleged that cartons of banned substances, including Loud and laughing gas, were recovered from the venue during the operation conducted in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025.

According to the statement, NDLEA operatives acting on credible intelligence had infiltrated the club around 11 pm on Saturday before swooping in on the gathering about 3 am based on standard operating procedures.
