My brother came into nigeria with the virus from the UK April 2020. He infected me and my 92 year old father. As at that time. The isolation center was top notch. I don't no about how it looks now. But we were treated like vip. We ate three square meals and played amongst ourselves. I am a chain smoker, I thought I won't be able to smoke but I was allowed to smoke regardless. As lucky as I was, I saw a lot of people die. People are secretive when it comes to ailments in this part of the world. What you would see on obituaries is "a brief illness" .

Well my old father survived. I survived too and my brother. I've been educating people about the virus. Its not a death sentence and I am certain many have had it and are not even aware of it.

Covid chronicles

You no how you hear about things and pray silently in your heart that it doesn't happen to you. Well, that's what every one does and we all act like we won't die someday. This is how i felt about covid. I first escaped it when it newly arrived in Nigeria. Around March 2020 I organised a small party and I had cousins who came in from the u.k. some days after the party, the news of covid was all over the country and news was everywhere that people who came into Nigeria from England especially are high risk. One of my cousins who came for my small party had it. She wasn't really in close contact with people but we later got to know she was asymptomatic. We all got tested and we were fine.

Fast forward to December of 2020. I went for a party and I was told someone in the party had it and chances are she must have spread it. It sounded like a joke and when I finally new who it was then I new I could not have escaped it cus I sat and talked with the carrier. Immediately I isolated myself from my husband and family. I did the test and it came out positive. My whole family had to live me in isolation at home and moved to another home unbeknown to them. I had infected them also and even a family member who came back from abroad was also affected. It was the most horrifying moment of our lives. To think that when they count data of people who have caught the virus in Nigeria, my name is there..... lol! Corona is real but I survived it. So did my family.

Just did a surgery for my cataract two weeks ago. I was advised to go to a federal hospital because of experienced doctors. I ended up wasting almost 6 months Booking appointments and bribing nurses so I can see the doctors on time. So I was eventually booked for surgery then afterwards I was told they didn't have intraocular lenses for my eye. I was advised to go to a private hospital owned by one of the doctors which I refused. After much consultation I eventually did the operation in a totally different private hospital. I did it within a month of visiting. Note that for the six months I was going to the federal hospital, I was being given drugs but I felt no relief. Once I started going to the private hospital leading up to the surgery, the treatment I got was top notch and the operation was successful. With this experience, I'd choose a good private hospital over a public one.

Sacrifice.

I was in the u.s when I heard my girlfriend was pregnant. It was not planned. After the birth of my son, Had to live everything i was doing and came back to Nigeria. He looks so much like me. I fell in love with him immediately. After about a year plus, he started falling sick. Several test were carried out and we found out he was a sickler. Its been four years of spending, fear and uncertainty but i cant give up. I love my son and I wouldn't trade him for anything. I hope he outlives me and he is one of the reasons why I work so hard. He didn't bring this on himself, we did!

Death is a personality

10 years ago, I noticed my sickness. The doctor said I was pre-diabetic but he made it seem like there was nothing to worry about. Life went on for me until this year. It has been the craziest of my life. I had full blown diabetes. Survived 3 strokes, and I have a high blood pressure, I also developed glaucoma and done surgery for it. In the course of my diabetic treatment, I fell into a gutter and had a deep wound. Miraculously it got healed in two weeks. This whole experience has changed my outlook in life. I saw death and concluded that death indeed is a personality. When it comes, it comes for the weakest link and for those who give up! Sickness has a way of changing your whole mentality. You see life differently and you appreciate everyone around you.
