WAYS FACEBOOK IS USED WRONGLY: No doubt the introduction of facebook in 2004 and Its availability on many mobile
devices has indeed affected the social life of
people around the world in diverse ways.
The free social networking site, like other
social media platforms, is a great tool that
can be used to develop relationships with
friends, family and business associates.
However, Facebook friends can step on each
others toes by their actions or inactions.
Activities of some people on Facebook upset
friends and thus leave negative impact on
interpersonal relationships.
Here are some tips that can help you build
successful relationships on a Fcebook:
Not a forum to nag:
It is not uncommon to see people venting
their frustration on Facebook by posting
issues relating to job dissatisfaction and
grudges they are nursing against their
bosses at work. This is not the best way of
using Facebook. Chances are quite high that
colleagues at work or even your boss could
get to know about it. Apart from straining
relationships you have built over the years, it
could be used against you thereby getting
you into serious trouble.
Its advisable that whenever you have issues
with either your friends or bosses that you
settle it with them directly rather than
broadcasting it on the Internet.
Not avenue for religious sentiments
Your friends on Facebook would most likely
come from diverse backgrounds with
different religious beliefs, personalities and
dissimilar world views. Its natural to be
passionate about one's religion but it is safe
for you to keep those sentiments to yourself
as it might turn out to be unhealthy.
A sarcastic religious post by a former
Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Malam
Nasir El-Rufai, on Twitter attracted outrage
not only from his Twitter followers but his
Facebook fans. Despite offering apology and
explaining that his comment was
misunderstood, some of his Facebook fans
even went to the extent of threatening to
defriend him.
Don't post private matters on FB Wall
It is becoming a common thing to see
people posting private stuffs on people's
wall. One wonders if those who do this have
forgot that others on their friends list can
get to see those intimate secrets. It is best to
engage in those private conversation
behind close doors using Facebook
Messaging.
Don't friend strangers
The maximum number of friends you can
have on Facebook is 5,000. But you don't
have to get to that limit before you curtail
adding friends arbitrarily. At least, the
number of friends you have on Facebook is
not a function of your popularity.
There are obvious disadvantages in adding
strangers as friends on Facebook.
Apart from the numerous Facebook inbox
messages and numerous invitations to
sundry unwanted applications and
notification, there are real life dangers
associated with connecting with strangers.
Scammers could use a combination of your
status updates and profile information. It's
good you reconsider your friending policy
and add only people who will add value to
your personal and professional life.
Don't ignore messages
Some of your Facebook friends can take you
up if they notice that you are online and you
deliberately ignore their chats or messages.
For example updating Facebook status while
ignoring a friends message hurts
relationship. Saying Hi, I will be right back,
in response to such chats can save you from
being labelled a snub by friends.
Dont abandon real relationships
It could be quite tempting to view online
relationships as no different from real life
relationships. Facebook should not take
shine off real life friendships. Despite
communicating with your loved ones who
are within geographical reach on Facebook,
always find time to hang out with them as
this will cement your relationship. Dont Forget To Share This PAGE for Others to LIKE.
