Meet Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo - by Precious Yetunde Olofinyokun PYO (Princess of the BTO Structures).
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo is a Nigerian engineer, entrepreneur, public administrator, and politician whose career has been marked by innovation, reform, and public service.
Born on 1 May 1982 in Okeagbe/Oyin Akoko, Ondo State, he turned 44 years old in 2026. He currently serves as the Minister of Interior of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023.
Educational Background
Tunji-Ojo's attended: FUTA Staff Secondary School, Akure, where he served as Senior Prefect.
He was admitted to Obafemi Awolowo University to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering before transferring to London Metropolitan University (formerly the University of North London), where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2005. He later earned a postgraduate qualification (Master's degree) in Digital Communication and Networking from the same institution in 2006. He also holds several internationally recognized ICT and cybersecurity certifications, including an Ethical Hacker certification.
Professional Career
Before venturing into politics, Tunji-Ojo established himself as a successful entrepreneur and technology consultant. At the age of 24, he founded Matrix IT Solutions Limited, an indigenous ICT consulting firm that provided strategic technology and project management services to public and private sector organizations. His consultancy portfolio included assignments for the World Bank and several Nigerian government institutions.
Legislative Achievements (2019–2023)
As a Member of the House of Representatives, Tunji-Ojo distinguished himself through active legislative oversight and constituency development.
Some notable highlights include:
• Represented the people of Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly.
• Served as Chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), where he championed transparency, accountability, and improved oversight of the Commission's activities.
• Served on several strategic House Committees, including National Security and Intelligence, Local Content, Gas Resources, Housing, North East Development Commission, Solid Minerals, and Pilgrims Affairs.
• Earned recognition for constituency-focused projects in education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and ICT development.
• Won re-election to the House of Representatives in February 2023 before resigning to accept ministerial appointment.

Since assuming office in August 2023, Tunji-Ojo has spearheaded a number of reforms aimed at modernizing Nigeria's internal security and public service institutions.
Among the reforms widely associated with his tenure are:
• Driving the digital transformation of passport application and processing services to improve efficiency and reduce delays.
• Introducing reforms to enhance border management and strengthen immigration administration.
• Improving personnel welfare across agencies under the Ministry of Interior through accelerated promotion exercises, enhanced career progression, and support for improved pension arrangements.
• Promoting more transparent recruitment and administrative processes across agencies supervised by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).
• Supporting modernization initiatives across the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Federal Fire Service.
• Emphasizing citizen-focused service delivery through technology-driven reforms and institutional efficiency.
• Championing inter-agency collaboration to strengthen internal security and public safety.
