President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) Performance Report, which highlights significant growth in Nigeria’s capital market since the commencement of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the NGX Group, the remarkable expansion has been driven by economic reforms, stronger investor confidence and major policy initiatives introduced by the administration.

The total market capitalisation of companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange has risen from just under ₦30 trillion in May 2023 to approximately ₦160 trillion. The NGX projects that the figure could reach ₦230 trillion by the end of 2026 if the current growth trajectory continues.

The NGX All-Share Index has also recorded a substantial increase, climbing from about 52,000 points in May 2023 to approximately 244,000 points, reflecting the strong performance of the Nigerian equities market.

The growth has also translated into significant wealth creation. The NGX estimates that approximately 900,000 new millionaires have emerged from wealth generated through the capital market.

Several major companies have recorded notable increases in profitability during the period. MTN Nigeria’s profit, for instance, has grown from about ₦200 billion to more than ₦1 trillion, while the Dangote Group’s profit has increased from approximately ₦240 billion to nearly ₦1 trillion.

The NGX identified several government policies and reforms as important contributors to the expansion. These include the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, foreign exchange reforms, the banking sector recapitalisation programme and digital transformation initiatives aimed at making the capital market more accessible.

The banking recapitalisation exercise alone has mobilised more than ₦4 trillion in domestic capital, with a further ₦1.4 trillion expected to be raised before the end of the year.

Digital reforms are also expected to transform participation in the market. For the first time, Nigerians will be able to buy shares and bonds directly through their mobile devices, potentially opening the capital market to a much wider segment of the population.

The NGX Group expressed confidence that Nigeria’s capital market is positioned to play a major role in financing the Federal Government’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.

The Group also called for greater support for the listing of strategic national assets on the Nigerian Exchange and encouraged major companies operating in Nigeria to consider dual listings. Such measures, it said, would provide Nigerians with greater opportunities to participate in and benefit from the wealth generated by businesses operating within the country.

The report underscores the growing role of Nigeria’s capital market as a vehicle for wealth creation, domestic investment mobilisation and long-term economic development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China requested that Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, once again address passengers aboard a flight on the Marine and Blue Economy.

He is travelling from Beijing to Xiamen, where he will continue speaking on the Blue Economy over the next three days.

The aircraft has also been specially branded with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) theme, underscoring the global significance of the discussions.

IGP Disu Attends UN Chiefs of Police Summit, Advocates Stronger Global Law Enforcement Partnership

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to deepening international law enforcement cooperation as a vital tool for promoting global peace, security, and sustainable development. He made this known during the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026), held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from July 7 to 8, 2026.

The summit convened Ministers, Inspectors-General of Police, Chiefs of Police, and senior representatives of regional and international policing organisations to strengthen collaboration between national police services and United Nations policing in addressing evolving global security challenges.

Speaking at the summit, IGP Disu stressed that criminal networks are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence, encrypted communications, and cyber-enabled technologies to expand their operations across national borders. He noted that these rapidly evolving threats require stronger international partnerships, intelligence sharing, and coordinated policing strategies to effectively combat transnational crime and safeguard global security.

INEC Approves Two-week Extension Of Continuous Voter Registration Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved a two-week extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The registration exercise, which began on August 18, 2025, was originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026. It will now run until July 24, 2026, following requests from eligible voters seeking more time to register.

According to the Commission, the extension is intended to provide additional opportunities for eligible Nigerians to be captured in the Register of Voters ahead of future electoral activities, reaffirming INEC's commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen has a fair and reasonable chance to register.

Eligible Nigerians who are yet to register should take advantage of the extension and complete their registration before July 24 to avoid missing the opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and vote in future elections.

Nigeria’s New Ambassador Officially Begins Diplomatic Mission in Australia and the Pacific

Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Solomon Islands and the Oceanic States, Femi Pedro, has formally assumed office after presenting his Letters of Credence to Australia’s Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms. Sam Mostyn AC.

The ceremony, held on June 23, 2026, marked the official commencement of Ambassador Pedro’s diplomatic assignment across Australia and the wider Pacific region.

Speaking after the event, Ambassador Pedro described the occasion as a significant milestone in advancing Nigeria’s interests abroad, emphasizing the opportunities for stronger engagement between Nigeria and countries across Oceania.

He noted that Nigeria and Australia share a growing partnership built on mutual respect, shared Commonwealth values and expanding economic opportunities. According to him, sectors such as critical minerals, agricultural innovation, education and financial technology offer considerable potential for deeper cooperation.

Ambassador Pedro reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening trade, investment, educational partnerships and cultural exchanges with Australia and other countries within his area of accreditation, stressing that the country remains open to business and international collaboration.

Addressing Nigerians living in Australia and across the Pacific, he pledged to promote their interests while strengthening Nigeria’s image and influence in the region. He also highlighted the importance of diaspora engagement in supporting national development and enhancing the country's global presence.

The ambassador said his work would be guided by Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities of demography, development, diaspora engagement and democracy, while reflecting the principles of the National Values Charter in diplomatic engagements.

Ambassador Pedro called on Nigerians across the region to continue serving as positive representatives of the country, noting that their achievements and contributions play an important role in shaping perceptions of Nigeria abroad.

His assumption of office comes as Nigeria continues efforts to expand economic cooperation, deepen international partnerships and strengthen engagement with diaspora communities around the world.

Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to United Nations Charter Ahead of UNGA 81

Nigeria has renewed its pledge to uphold the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter as preparations gather pace for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In line with its obligations under international law, the country also reiterated its support for the ongoing UN80 reform agenda aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of the global organisation.

The renewed commitment was formally endorsed by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, who signed on behalf of the President. He stated that Nigeria remains dedicated to promoting peace and stability within its borders while contributing to harmony within the wider global system.

Ambassador Ibrahim also serves as Chairman of the United Nations Fifth Committee, which oversees Budget, Appropriations and Administration matters.

The reaffirmation was made in New York on June 17, 2026.
