Member representing Kyan State Constituency at the Benue State House of Assembly, BSHOA, Hon. Emmanuel Terna Shimawua has executed over eleven (11) projects in his constituency.

This motorized borehole project was successfully executed by Hon. Shimawua at Najeria Market Square, Mbakine Tsambe, located in the Vandeikya Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.

Mbakine is a major village located within the Tsambe kindred (and broader Kyan constituency) of Vandeikya Local Government Area.

The borehole serves as a critical clean water resource for Mbakine and at least five neighboring beneficiary communities.

A UK coroner ruled that he died of a pulmonary embolism caused by a pen*s-enlargement treatment, in which fillers were injected at a clinic in March.

The Executive Secretary of the Bureau for Mines and Solid Minerals, Hon. Uta Steve Aondona, has declared that the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has no contender in Kwande ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Hon. Uta made the declaration in Mbahar, Nanev, Kwande LGA, during the funeral of Hon. Joseph Hemen Boko, who until his passing served as Leader of the Kwande APC Elders Forum.

He noted that the giant strides recorded by Governor Alia, coupled with the numerous appointments given to Kwande indigenes, deserve appreciation. He stressed that the people of Kwande regard Governor Alia as their sole gubernatorial candidate and are willing and ready to reciprocate the goodwill in 2027.

Hon. Uta also commended the leader of the APC in Kwande, Hon. Prince Moses Ternenge, for his immense support toward the successful burial of Hon. Boko, and for consistently championing the progress of Kwande sons and daughters in their various assignments.

On the Kwande West House of Assembly election, Hon. Uta urged constituents to rally behind Hon. Mela Aondosoo Ageshi. He expressed confidence that the candidate has proven, beyond reasonable doubt, that he will deliver the dividends of democracy to his people if entrusted with the mandate.

In his funeral oration, Hon. Uta admonished the bereaved family to put their trust in God, whom he described as the giver and taker of life. He assured them of his continued support at all times.

ICE says β€œOperation Rotten Apple” led to 2,197 arrests across New York. State leaders are now clashing over who was targeted, why, and what it means for public safety.

Federal officials said the month-long immigration enforcement operation ran from July 27 to Aug. 29 and covered New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and other parts of the state.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin described those arrested as β€œthe worst of the worst,” saying the operation included alleged gang members, r*pists, m*rderers, child pr*dators, dr*g traffickers and vi*lent assailants. DHS highlighted several individual cases, but did not release a full breakdown showing how many of the 2,197 people arrested had criminal charges or convictions.

That missing breakdown is a major point in the dispute.

Gov. Kathy Hochul questioned whether federal agents were still mainly targeting serious offenders, saying authorities may now be going after people β€œwho are not committing crimes.” According to ICE data obtained by the Deportation Data Project and cited by The City Reporter, 66% of more than 18,000 ICE arrests in New York state since Trump took office involved people with no criminal history.

Mullin defended the broader approach, saying that anyone in the country illegally can be targeted for deportation, whether or not they have a separate criminal conviction.

The fight also centers on New York’s sanctuary policies and limits on local cooperation with ICE, including restrictions tied to 287(g) agreements, which allow local law enforcement to assist with federal immigration enforcement. Federal officials argue those limits make arrests harder and more dangerous. State officials and immigrant advocates argue they protect local trust and prevent overreach.

At the same time, Hochul is pushing for $87 million in federal police and counterterrorism funding, saying those funds have supported major arrests, disruptions and leads across multiple states.

Immigration enforcement has long sat at the crossroads of federal power, local policing, public safety and civil rights. New York is now one of the biggest stages for that national fight.

Abuja, September 1, 2026 β€” Nigeria's economy continues to demonstrate resilience and accelerating growth with the second quarter of 2026 real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanding by 4.43 per cent year-on-year, up from 4.23 per cent in Q2 2025 and 3.89 per cent in Q1 2026.

The strong Q2 2026 outturn lifted real GDP growth for the first half of 2026 to 4.16 per cent, up from 3.68 per cent in the corresponding period of 2025, a clear signal of sustained strengthening across the economy.

Growth is also becoming more broad-based. In Q2 2026, 27 economic subsectors recorded real growth above 3.0 per cent, up from 23 subsectors in Q2 2025, showing that expansion is no longer concentrated in a handful of industries.

The productive sectors led the way. Manufacturing grew by 3.24 per cent, more than double the 1.60 per cent recorded in Q2 2025, reflecting improved industrial output. Agriculture expanded by 4.39 per cent, up from 2.82 per cent, underscoring stronger production and value-chain performance. Services, the largest driver of growth, expanded by 4.60 per cent, up from 3.94 per cent.

The relative stability and steady appreciation of the exchange rate further amplified these gains in dollar terms. The naira appreciated by more than 12 per cent between H1 2025 and H1 2026, resulting in an expansion of the economy by approximately 17 per cent in U.S. dollar terms over the period, a pace that, if sustained along with the various social programmes of the Government, will meaningfully strengthen dollar incomes, improve purchasing power and lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.

Given this momentum, Nigeria is well positioned to consolidate its standing among Africa's largest economies and to advance toward the Government's target of a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030. The International Monetary Fund has already ranked Nigeria among the top 10 contributors to global real GDP growth in 2026, projecting the country to account for roughly 1.5 per cent of world growth this year, ahead of several advanced and emerging economies.

Continued macroeconomic stability, sustained growth across productive sectors, and improving investor confidence would accelerate Nigeria's progression toward becoming Africa's largest economy by 2028.

These results underscore the importance of sustaining our reforms and ensuring policy consistency as their benefits begin to reach households across the country. The Government remains focused on accelerating inclusive growth and translating these macroeconomic gains into shared prosperity for every Nigerian family.
