Victor Osimhen for Galatasaray SK goes top of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) scoring chart after yesterday’s hat-trick against AFC Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena.

He's the second Nigerian player to score a hat-trick after Yakubu Aiyegbeni did for Maccabi Haifa against Olympiacos on September 24, 2002.

LIONEL MESSI BREAKS HISTORIC MOST GOLDEN BOOT AWARDS RECORD FOR AN ARGENTINE PLAYER

By capturing the Golden Boot for the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Lionel MESSI has become the Argentine player with the most topscorer awards in first division leagues.

The Inter Miami winger previously won eight Golden Boots in the Spanish La Liga with FC Barcelona and has now added a ninth in a different league.

MESSI has left behind the likes of Atilio GARCIA, Alfredo di STEFANO and Carlos BIANCHI, who he had tied with on eight golden boot awards since he last won it in the 2020/2021 season with Barcelona.

KURZAWA IS THE FIRST DEFENDER TO SCORE A UCL HAT-TRICK

Layvin KURZAWA is the first defender to score a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League when he netted three times for PSG - Paris Saint-Germain against Anderlecht in October 2017.

The left-back scored PSG's third, fourth and fifth goals against the Belgian side at the Parc des Princes after first-half efforts from Marco VERRATTI and Neymar in the group-stage clash in Paris.

GERMANY HOLDS THE RECORD OF PLAYING IN MORE FIFA WORLD CUP FINAL MATCHES

Germany Football Team have played in more FIFA World Cup final matches than any other national team, winning four (Switzerland 1954, West Germany 1974, Italia 1990 and Brazil 2014) and losing another four (England 1966, Espana 1982, Mexico 1986 and Korea/Japan 2002).

Interestingly, the German Mannschaft have also finished in third place four times (Italy 1934, Mexico 1970, Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010)!

JOSÉ MOURINHO INSTANTLY OVERTAKES CARLO ANCELOTTI TO CREATE EUROPEAN HISTORY IN EUROPA LEAGUE OPENER

Fenerbahce are now the ninth side that José MOURINHO has managed in European competition which he achieved when the Portuguese coach when he led the Turkish clubside to a 2-1 victory in the UEFA Europa League match against Belgium's Union Saint-Gilloise

This means he has now surpassed the joint-record he held with Carlo ANCELOTTI, who has managed eight different clubs in Europe.

Mourinho has now led SL Benfica, FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma and now Fenerbahce into Europe.

He's also won a major European match with eight of those nine sides.

Not just content with competing in Europe though, Mourinho has a rather impressive track record when it comes to silverware.

ENDRICK THE HISTORY MAKER

Brazilian teenager Endrick is the youngest foreign player at 18 years and 35 days old to score in his Spanish La Liga debut for Real Madrid C.F. in the 21st century.

The Brazilian teenager did so against Real Valladolid in a 3-0 win at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu as a substitute on Sunday August 25 2024.

TUNJI BANJO WAS THE FIRST FOREIGN-BORN PLAYER TO REPRESENT NIGERIA

Tunji BANJO is a pioneering figure in Nigerian football, as he was the first foreign-born player to represent Nigeria.

He was born in Kensington, London, and played schoolboy football for Brent, Middlesex, and London Schools before joining Leyton Orient as an apprentice in 1977.

BANJO was eligible to play for Nigeria through his father, and he took this option, making his international debut in a Espana 1982 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Tunisia in Lagos in 1980 at just 20 years old for the then Green Eagles. He would go on to win a total of seven caps for Nigeria.

As one of the first generation of foreign-born professional players to don the green jersey, BANJO helped bridge the gap between Nigerian and European football.
