Who was John Thomas?
Ever wondered about the roots of the Christadelphian community? It all started with a man searching for biblical truth after a near-death experience.
Born in England in 1805, Dr. John Thomas was a trained medical doctor who dedicated the rest of his life to an intense, independent study of the Bible, setting aside human traditions to focus purely on the scriptures. His findings led to a revival of first-century Christian beliefs, focusing on:
*The mortality of the soul and the hope of resurrection.
*The literal return of Jesus Christ to establish God's Kingdom on Earth.
*The importance of the promises made to Abraham.
By 1864, during the American Civil War, the community of believers he helped bring together needed a distinctive name to register as conscientious objectors. He coined the name Christadelphians, meaning "Brethren in Christ."
Today, his legacy lives on in a worldwide community bound by a shared love for deep Bible study and the hope of the coming Kingdom.
