NO , GHANA DID NOT CREATE DETTY DECEMBER. IT WAS NIGERIA.
Since the beginning of time , the Igbos have been traveling home from the diaspora and everywhere to celebrate Christmas every December, but it had no name . It was just Christmas celebration in the village .
The word " Detty " is the Naija pidgin - English street - slang for d!rty. Ghanaians don't pronounce d!rty as " Detty" they pronounce it as " Durty." So it shows where the word came from.
In the early 2000s, December street carnivals were happening in Lagos, Nigeria, started by late rapper Dagrin and Olamide in the streets of Lagos, and blew from there .
Then, the Calabar festival took it to a new level and made it international.
Mr. Eazi went to calabar , saw the 'groove', and took it to Ghana in 2017, and that is why Ghanaian felt it was theirs . It isn't.
Now that Naija has made it bigger and better and attracted international stars to Nigeria, they are now saying they started it and that Nigerians are trying to miss - appropriate their creation and claim it as theirs. This is so off the truth.
Some Nigerians who just have a phone and a page and don't know this history, most especially those raised abroad, think it was Ghana. Again, it isn't.
'Detty' December is Nigerian and older than Nigeria itself. It was here even before Nigeria was given a name, but it had no name .
Ghana should join Nigeria and make the movement bigger instead of bickering about nothing and trying to re - write history
The fact must be said at all times.
