Burna Boy Launches Football Academy
Nigerian superstar and Grammy Award-winning artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has unveiled a new football academy with training centers located in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.
Details about the academy began circulating online on Monday, revealing that it is open to young players aged 4 to 15, as well as older players between the ages of 16 and 21.
"Our goal is to create an environment where children can learn the fundamentals of football while also focusing on education, discipline, and technique, equipping them to succeed in life beyond the sport," the academy's vision statement reads on their website. The academy also emphasizes the importance of engaging parents in sports education alongside their children's academic development.
The academy boasts partnerships with several English Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton, as well as Championship side Watford. Additionally, Scottish clubs Hearts and Hamilton are listed as partners.
The academy operates junior teams with training centers in Lekki and Surulere (both in Lagos), as well as in Abuja and Port Harcourt. According to their website, the academy runs programs three days a week, with each session consisting of two hours of mandatory training.
Before the academy was publicly announced, it had already been operational, as indicated by the results of seven friendly matches posted on their website—four wins, two losses, and one draw.
