Championing projects that empower youth and foster civic engagement is something I'm deeply passionate about.

The i-ACT Base Camp '24 was one such fulfilling experience, despite the challenges of balancing other commitments. It marked another effort toward youth development and promoting youth participation in government processes.

It was an honor to facilitate sessions alongside brilliant minds like Daisi Matthew Omokungbe, Nurudeen Olanrewaju Hassan, Mubarak Idris and Ogbudimkpa Ikenna.

A big shoutout to everyone who joined and contributed to making this a memorable event. Special thanks to our amazing team at Nobul Africa, and to the participants who engaged so wonderfully.

If you missed it, catch up on the sessions on Nobul Africa's YouTube channel:https://youtu.be/izvfN4rj4K4?si=p9qh3D-3DjnNMcnf

As a young Nigerian passionate about policy advocacy, I recognize the need to engage youth in transparency efforts. Traditionally, older adults have led these initiatives, but it's crucial to empower young people as well.

At the i-ACT Base-Camp, one of our key topics is Digital Advocacy for Institutional Accountability. This session will explore how social media and digital tools can be powerful instruments for change, especially for youth who may not have the resources for traditional policy advocacy.

This project targets youth aged 15 to 35, particularly secondary school students and first - and second-year undergraduates. Many in this group lack access to information about their role in promoting democratic values, institutional integrity, and transparency in Nigeria.

Just do the work!

'Life can often feel like a solitary journey, especially when you’re dedicated to your path but surrounded by silence. The sensation of isolation can be overwhelming, making you question the value of your efforts and the worthiness of your goals. However, there is a profound truth that often goes unnoticed: the work you do with sincerity and integrity has a unique way of reaching out into the world, connecting you with like-minded souls.

True and conscientious work resonates beyond the immediate confines of your environment. When you pour your heart into what you do, you’re not just creating something of value—you’re sending out a beacon to others who share your values and vision.

It's also important to acknowledge that the journey of doing conscientious work can be its own reward. It cultivates inner strength, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

Trust that your true and conscientious work will find its way into the world, drawing those who appreciate and resonate with it. Unknown friends are out there, looking for the authenticity and dedication you bring. Stay true to your path, and you'll build a network of meaningful connections.'

This reflection is a reminder to myself and to all of us who sometimes feel alone in our work. True dedication never goes unnoticed in the grander scheme of things.

Nigeria faces significant challenges in institutional accountability and transparency. These challenges undermine democratic governance and hinder socio-economic development. The youth, who make up a substantial portion of the population, often lack the knowledge and skills to effectively engage with and hold institutions and government accountable.

The protests in 2020 were a watershed moment, significantly increasing the consciousness of Nigerian youth about their collective power and voice.

These protests revealed a deep-seated frustration with systemic abuses and a failure of public institutions to respond effectively to citizens' needs and demands. The outcome of the protests highlighted the challenges in demanding accountability, demonstrating that young people still have a long way to go in collectively advocating for transparency.

Despite the heightened awareness brought about by movements like , many Nigerian youth lack the knowledge and skills required to engage constructively with issues of governance and institutional accountability, perpetuating a cycle of poor governance.

A few months ago, I was selected to participate in the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa program, , and my experience has reinforced my conviction in the power of youth to play a critical role in building strong institutions and driving accountability and transparency.

That is why I'm excited to announce the -ACT Base-Camp, an initiative of the Nobul Africa Foundation, scheduled to hold from 1ST TO 3RD, ON ZOOM.
This program aims to equip Nigerian youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote and advocate for institutional accountability and transparency.

Join me and other experts in governance and the civic space at the base camp.

Global Youth Ambassador!

Last month, my application to Theirworld 's Global Youth Ambassador Programme was accepted.

As a Global Youth Ambassador, I have joined a diverse cohort of young people from around the world, all committed to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: 'Inclusive and equitable quality education for all.'

My journey toward supporting SDG4 began with the Benue School Her project, which successfully enrolled 30 girls from various local governments in Benue back into schools. This endeavour presented many challenges, including fundraising, mobilizing communities, and ensuring the project's sustainability.

This effort earned me the Female and More Social Impact Award in 2022, along with a fully funded learning visit to Rwanda, my first international trip.

Awards like this inspires further action, not just through recognition but by propeling a deeper passion, one that stems from my own experiences, having endured educational struggles and wending through the public school system as we have it.

I envision a future where every Nigerian child, regardless of gender, religious affiliation, or financial status, is assured access to quality education. All children, especially the youngest among us, deserve to have the best start in life.

I am excited to experience my time on the GYA programme, which is already underway!

The Gift of a Father

Today, I celebrate a man who has shaped my life in ways words can hardly express. My father.

There were times, as a young child, I questioned your love. I remember the times when you would make me mix gravel and serve while you were completing our house. I would always wonder, 'What does this man think I am? Ter could could do these things at least; why do I need to be part of this?' 🤣 Then there were the long hours of farming, harvesting, and processing melon (I have never enjoyed processing egusi) and rice. And oh! the days of trekking home, from government model school to old brewery quarters under the scorching sun, only to start my chores right after.

I remember the constant anger towards you. I knew it was your way of teaching and most times, you couldn't afford to give us better experiences, I still resented you for it.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight, I see those moments for what they were – invaluable lessons in responsibility, hard work and resilience.

My father's quiet strength has taught me that you don’t always need to raise your voice to be heard. He never yells, never imposes. But, he is the constant voice of reason, the re-assuring presence that guides us through.

At every pivotal moment in my life, when I made decisions that he was sometimes not comfortable with, because he thought it was not safe for me, or, as he would say; "you are too young to go through this or you are working too hard", his response would always be: "You have my blessings."
He doesn’t always have the resources to support every venture, but his trust in me has always been more valuable than any material support.
It is a gift of confidence, a testament to his belief in me and my ability to navigate the world with integrity and determination.

My father's love may not be measured by grand gestures or lavish gifts but by the quiet wisdom he imparted and the unending support he offers. He has shown us that true love and care don't require much – just a heart full of faith and a willingness give all you can and to let those you love find their own path.

Every challenging experience, every tough lesson, has shaped me into the person I am today, and will grow to be. I owe my work ethic, my discipline, and my perseverance to my father.
He has taught me to strive, to dream, and to believe in myself, even when the odds were against me.

Dad, you are the foundation upon which our dreams are built and my deepest wish is to one day repay you in ways that reflects my gratitude. I dream of the day I can buy you your dream car(s), beautiful house(s) and take you and mum around the world in the finest dresses.

But until then, I want him you to know that we love you, we appreciate you, and we pray that you reap the fruits of your labor.

Thank you for every lesson, every blessing, and every bit of wisdom you have shared.

Today and always, we celebrate you.

Happy Father's Day!
