Dear Q Community,

Monday the 15th of January, Nigeria commemorated the 54th Remembrance Day For Our Fallen Soldiers.

Did you know Lagos was once the location of a statue called Soldier Idumota? Known by the locals as Sojadumota?

Sojadumota was a statue that was erected by the British Colonial Government in 1948 to commemorate Nigerians who died in active service during the First and Second World War.

It used to be located at Idumota but was moved to the current capital of Nigeria, Abuja.

It featured two men soldiers of differing rank, side by side with each other.

Commemorations prior to the end of the Civil War fell on the 11th of November. Post-Independence celebrations involved important dignitaries thronging to Idumota to witness the laying of wreaths by the Head of State and display by the Armed Forces.
