Before motherhood: skincare routine.

After motherhood: water, soap and the grace of God. 😂

At this point, if I manage to bathe in peace, that’s a self-care win. 😭

Mums, please tell me I’m not alone. 😂

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the Keeping It Real Conference, created for young girls aged 11 and above.

This year’s theme, “Becoming,” focused on the journey to purpose and identity.

While I went there to pour into these young minds, I left with so much to reflect on myself. This experience taught me 7 things:

1. The home should always be a safe haven, not a war zone.
Children should not have to constantly navigate conflict, fear or tension in the place that is supposed to be their safest space.

2. Parents, please stop passing your trauma on to your children.
Because you experienced something does not automatically mean your child will. Your fears do not have to become their reality.

3. Never compare your children. NEVER.
Not with their siblings. Not with their classmates. Not with the neighbour’s child. Comparison can make a child question their own worth.

4. Words are powerful.
Please do not break a child’s spirit in the name of correction. You can correct behaviour without destroying confidence.

5. Children and teenagers need to be taught to use AI for good.
AI is already shaping their world. We need to teach them how to use it responsibly, creatively and ethically, rather than simply telling them to stay away from it.

6. Children and teenagers are already dealing with so much pressure.
Academic pressure. Social pressure. Peer pressure. The pressure to fit in and figure themselves out. They do not need unnecessary pressure from the adults around them too.

7. Young girls need hand-holding.
They need guidance. They need encouragement. They need women who will show them what is possible. Most importantly, they need examples of light.

Be the light you want the next generation of girls to see.

I’m thankful to the convener, , for putting together this amazing programme and for sustaining it for 9 editions.

And as I said to you privately, the 10th edition will exceed your imagination. It will be the best one yet! 💜

Growing up, I had so many questions about who I was, what I wanted to become, and whether the dreams I had for my future were even possible.

What made a difference was having the right people around me. People who guided me, challenged me, encouraged me, and helped steer me in the right direction.

That is why I am especially excited to be speaking to girls aged 14–16 on “Becoming Bold: Making Wise Choices in a Changing World.”

We will be talking about identity, self-worth, social media, relationships, boundaries, and emotional well-being, but ultimately, about something bigger: understanding that the choices we make today shape the women we become.

For me, this is more than a speaking engagement. It is an opportunity to give back by sharing some of the lessons, guidance and perspective that helped shape me.

If you know a girl between 14 and 16 who should be part of this conversation, please share this with her parent, guardian, school or community.

Sometimes, the right conversation at the right age can change everything. 💜
