Who is a Citizen Analyst and Why Is It Important for Every Employee or Employer to Become One?

Do you know that every 21st-century employee/employer in organizations needs data analysis skills and/or AI knowledge to stay relevant in their jobs? According to the Future of Jobs report shared by the World Economic Forum on January 8, 2025, some jobs that AI can do would be replaced by 100 %. That means humans would not be needed to perform those roles again, and this would result in people losing their jobs. Some jobs will only require some percentages of humans and some percentages of AI interventions. That means employees occupying those roles in which AI can be used to achieve a certain percentage of their jobs will need to equip themselves with adequate knowledge of AI to keep their jobs. Whether you are a marketing, finance, HR, sales, engineering, health, etc. professional, you need data analysis skills and/or knowledge of AI. We are in the era of the 4th industrial revolution where everything or every critical decision we make at work, or the success or sustainability of the organization depends on data. Data analysis skills and AI knowledge will help you to stay competitive and remain relevant in your job as an employee and in your business as an employer. Employees/employers with data analysis skills and/or AI knowledge become more valuable and open doors to career advancement and business. Every employee/employer with a sound knowledge of data analysis regardless of their role or domain expertise is referred to as CITIZEN ANALYST. With the advancement of AI, a citizen analyst with sound knowledge of data analysis and of issuing the right prompt to agentic AIs such as ChatGPT, Qwen Max 3.5, and Deepseek will continue to stay afloat in the competitive market.
One of the tools of data analysis that a citizen analyst needs to master is SQL. SQL is the only language that your company database understands.
In today’s data-driven world, SQL (Structured Query Language) is no longer just for IT or data teams, it’s a must-have skill for employees at all levels. Whether you’re in marketing, finance, sales, HR, or operations, SQL helps you access, analyze, and interpret data to make smarter decisions.
Key Reasons Why SQL is Essential for Everyone:
Data-Driven Decision Making – Every department generates and relies on data. With SQL, employees can directly extract insights from databases instead of waiting for reports from IT or analysts.
Time & Cost Efficiency – SQL eliminates the need for multiple spreadsheets and manual data handling, making data analysis faster and more accurate.
Handling Large Datasets – Unlike Excel, which struggles with large amounts of data, SQL efficiently processes and analyzes vast datasets without performance issues.
Customization & Flexibility – SQL allows users to write custom queries, filters, and manipulate data as needed, rather than relying on predefined reports.
