Monaco have not registered Folarin Balogun as part of their squad for the first stage of their Europa League campaign.

Clubs had until Thursday to confirm the players that would be included in their set-up for the League Phase.

And the French side opted not to select Balogun.

That decision comes just days after the USA international’s transfer away from the club to Everton fell though.

Balogun chose to walk away from the imminent deal on Deadline Day after an issue was flagged in his medical.

The striker will now not be able to play games in Europe for Monaco, having scored five Champions League goals last term.

Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa has hinted that he’s not too happy with his club’s transfer business this summer.

Arbeloa has brought in seven new players for just short of £85million, but it seems he may have wanted more.

“If you ask any coach in the Premier League, maybe they can feel like they can improve their squad,” he said. “It’s normal.

“From the day that I arrived, I have very honest and open conversations with the club and they know my thoughts about the squad.

“But I can focus on the ones we don’t have or I can focus on what we do have. I prefer the second option.”

Jean-Philippe Mateta will not be leaving Crystal Palace this summer after suffering an injury.

The striker has been trying to depart Selhurst Park all summer and has even argued that the remainder of his contract isn’t valid.

But any hopes of a late switch have been scuppered.

The forward started Palace’s Premier League opener last weekend against Everton but has now suffered a hamstring problem.

Unai Emery has revealed he shed a tear as he said an emotional farewell to striker Ollie Watkins.

The 30-year-old is set to complete a move to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Hilal.

Fans were left unimpressed after Watkins refused to play Villa’s Premier League opener - and subsequent 4-0 defeat to Brighton - but Emery revealed the forward’s apology and hailed his commitment to the club throughout his spell at Villa Park.

And the manager admitted he was really sad to see the England star go.

“I can tell you now Watkins, his commitment and his behaviour was fantastic,” said Emery.

“We didn’t get a deal to finish his last match playing at Brighton, but he told us after the match he was sorry and he told us as well he made a mistake.

“He was wrong but we accepted it. The players as well because he always had very good behaviour and commitment with the club, with us and with me.

“For me, it’s a fantastic guy, a fantastic guy even more than a player. I told him bye with a huge hug and with small tears.

“But now it’s a new chapter here with Nicolas Jackson and we replace him.”
