Our Engagement with General Abacha: Setting the Record Straight

In consonance with my established principles of defending everything I am involved in, and in the interest of all men and women of goodwill, especially those committed to the pursuit of truth, I hereby attach the letter which documents my co-opting, along with others, into the Taskforce on the decongestion of the Ports.

As I stated during my interview at the weekend and consistently maintained in the past, I had never met General Sani Abacha before that encounter. Our meeting with him was borne out of collective concern as traders and importers over the prolonged delays in clearing goods at the ports. We approached him not as political actors, but as concerned citizens seeking pragmatic solutions to a matter affecting economic activity and livelihoods.

Our intention was clear: to advocate for efficiency, and to propose practical steps towards restoring normalcy in port operations for the benefit of the wider business community and, ultimately, the Nigerian economy.

This clarification is offered in the interest of truth, to reaffirm that our actions were driven solely by a sense of civic duty and not political ambition.

I don't expect this copious evidence to bury this Abacha case because the mischief makers have ulterior motives, but it's being placed in the public space for posterity and in line with my transparency pledge to Nigerians on any issue I am involved in.

CAS SALUTES COURAGE AND SACRIFICE OF NAF VETERANS IN NATIONWIDE PARLEY

In a heartfelt gesture, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on 5 July 2025, hosted the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Veterans’ Parley across all Commands and units nationwide. The event which is an initiative of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, was designed to reconnect with retired personnel, honour their legacy of sacrifice, and reinforce institutional unity. The event reflected the CAS’s transformational vision that places people, professionalism, and heritage at the core of the NAF’s mission.

The parley was deeply emotional, serving as a homecoming for hundreds of retired officers and airmen. It featured heartfelt tributes, recollections from past operations, and open discussions on welfare and reintegration challenges. In a special nationwide address, Air Marshal Abubakar described the engagement as “a national call to remembrance, reflection, and reconnection,” assuring veterans of ongoing improvements in healthcare, pension structures, and social support. “This is your home, and your voice will always count,” he affirmed.

From Kaduna to Calabar, Port Harcourt to Kano, veterans were warmly welcomed by serving personnel in a show of solidarity and respect. Retired MWO Apreala Edmund said, “We never asked for thanks, but today, we feel seen.” Another veteran called it “a humbling reminder of the legacy we once risked everything for.” The NAF, through this event, has not only honoured its past but reaffirmed its enduring commitment to care, inclusion, and the spirit of service that binds generations of Airmen and Women.

Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections with Distinguished Senator David Mark serving as the National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola serving as the National Secretary.

Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.

This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.

No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls even when those bridges are uneasy.

A New Nigeria is POssible.
