Profile of Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, APC Deputy Governorship Candidate Nominee for Lagos State

Princess Damilola Sonayon-James is the newly nominee for Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State. She is a sustainability professional with experience in governance, strategic planning, project implementation, social policy development, community engagement, and risk management.

She was born into the royal family of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry West Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. She is the granddaughter of the late Oba Afolabi Ogungbe James and daughter of the late Hon. Bolarinwa Sonayon James, a former Member of the House of Representatives.

She attended ASCON Badagry and Lagos State Model College, Kankon, before proceeding to the United Kingdom, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Human Resources Management from the University of Hull. She later earned a Master of Science degree in Social Work, with specialisation in Community Development, from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

Princess Damilola has worked in sustainability, governance, and social development, with experience in technical governance, strategic planning, policy review, stakeholder engagement, and project management. She has worked with organisations including Conrad Clark Nigeria and BOLT Nigeria, where she was involved in sustainability strategy and risk management initiatives.

She is a certified Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability Risk Champion and holds professional certifications, including the Risk Management Society Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP).

Through private sector partnerships and non-profit initiatives, she has participated in programmes focused on socio-economic development, social inclusion, and community support. She is particularly interested in using risk-based approaches to strengthen ESG practices, sustainability actions, climate protection, and heritage preservation.

In 2020, she was part of a team that reviewed the Lagos State Youth Policy and its thematic areas in alignment with the United Nations Youth Framework to support youth inclusion and participation.

Princess Damilola has served as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West LCDA. During her tenure, she led and supported several community-based projects, including the Light Up Project, which provided solar-powered lighting in communities to improve security and economic activity.

She has worked with organisations including the Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Mind-Gap Incubation Hub, and the National Youth Council of Nigeria on skills development, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and women-focused programmes.

Princess Damilola Sonayon-James turned 40 in 2025. Her career spans sustainability practice, public service, policy development, and community engagement.

From Apprentice to CEO: Hon. Anayo ‘Igwe Fashola’ Uchechukwu Tells His Ceeman Generator Story

Alaba International Market, Ojo In an exclusive interview on August 29, 2025, Hon. AnayoChukwu Uchechukwu, popularly known as Igwe Fashola, shared his inspiring journey from a humble apprentice to the Director and CEO of Ceeman Gasoline Generator, a fast-rising brand known for its 100% copper engines.

Speaking passionately, Igwe Fashola revealed that his entrepreneurial drive was born from personal experience during his 20 years of apprenticeship at Alaba International Market. According to him, Nigerians deserved generators that could stand the test of time without frequent breakdowns.

“After my training, I discovered that many generators people bought would only last a few years before developing faults. I felt Nigerians deserved value for their money, so I took it upon myself to customize Ceeman Gasoline Generators in China. Today, by the grace of God, we own the franchise across the country and have been in existence for a year now,” he said.

On the challenges of doing business in Nigeria, the CEO lamented the harsh economic climate, unstable exchange rates, and rising import tariffs. He disclosed that some of his containers had been stuck at the port for weeks due to excessive duties.

“The government must stabilize the exchange rate. Sometimes you pay factories in China at a high rate, but before your goods arrive in Nigeria, the rate drops and you run at a loss. This is killing many businesses,” he stressed.

Sharing his personal background, Igwe Fashola revealed he was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, though originally from Ideato North, Imo State. He attended primary and secondary school in Lagos before joining Alaba Market in 1996 to serve as an apprentice due to financial constraints. Today, he is happily married with four children.

Looking back on his journey, he attributed his success to God, hard work, and determination.

“There is dignity in labour. Young people must understand that you sow before you reap. Focus, learn a trade, and put God first,” he advised.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, his message was clear:

“Business is better than waiting for office work. Whether you are a graduate or not, humble yourself, learn a trade, and invest in business. Every business has its tricks, so be patient and determined.”

With resilience and vision, Hon. Anayo Igwe Fashola Uchechukwu has turned Ceeman Gasoline Generator into a symbol of reliability in Nigeria’s power sector proving that apprenticeship, when embraced with dignity, can lead to greatness.

Sculpting His Dreams: Delta born Artist Ekele Ifeanyi Makes Global Impact

Delta State born sculptor, Mr. Ikele Ifeanyi, has carved a name for himself in the art world, rising from humble beginnings to exhibiting his works on international platforms. Speaking in an exclusive interview, the Auchi Polytechnic graduate shared his journey, challenges, inspirations, and hopes for the future of Nigerian art.

Ifeanyi, who manages Junk Oracle Studio along Badagry Expressway, said his passion for art began at a tender age. “I have always loved to draw and work with cardboards as a child. Sculpture caught my heart because it requires both strength and passion,” he explained.

His works are characterized by vibrant colors and deep social and political messages. Notably, he once exhibited in Pakistan with a piece titled Animal Empowerment, which highlighted governance and citizen welfare.

Recalling his toughest challenges, he lamented the lack of support for artists in Nigeria. “After completing a project in Abuja, I wasn’t paid. It was frustrating. Power supply is another major problem because art requires mood and consistency,” he said.

Despite these hurdles, Ifeanyi has had successful exhibitions, including international showcases earlier this year. He is currently preparing for another major exhibition with the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) scheduled for October.

When asked about government involvement in the arts, he acknowledged some progress but urged for more. “Strategic places like roundabouts should carry artworks that represent culture and history. Art tells the story of a person,” he stressed.

Describing some of his creations, Ifeanyi spoke passionately about The Piper (a chimpanzee sculpture symbolizing human similarity to animals), The Crowing C**k (inspired by his childhood wake-up calls), and A Primitive Lady with a Violin (a fusion of tradition and Western influence, symbolizing patience and consistency).

Looking ahead, Ifeanyi hopes to feature on international stages alongside great artists across the world. His advice to young aspiring artists is simple but powerful: “Keep working and don’t relent. It’s not a bed of roses, but with patience and consistency, the world will hear your voice.”

Tuesday, May 8th 2024, officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) apprehended a road infrastructure vandal who was vandalizing the newly constructed 3rd Mainland Bridge road light indicators.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Friday Nwafor a 46-year-old male resident of Lagos who was immediately taken into our custody and handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command Mr. Adegoke Fayoade
