Kids learn best through stories — so here’s one for every Nigerian paren

Tomi was an 8-year-old girl who loved buying akara from Mama Bose every afternoon on her way home from school.
One sunny day, as she walked down her street, a smiling man she didn’t know waved at her.

“Hello, princess! Come, I have something for you,” he said, pointing at a bag beside him.

Tomi stopped.
Her heart did gbim gbim.
She didn’t know this man.

She remembered what her teacher said in school:
“If someone your parents don’t know tries to call you — don’t go near.”

So Tomi held her school bag tightly and shook her head.

“No, thank you sir. My mummy is waiting for me.”

The man frowned slightly.
“Just come, it’s a gift!”

But Tomi didn’t answer again.
She quickly crossed to the other side of the road, walked toward a shop where people were standing, and stayed there until the man walked away.

When she got home, she told her mum everything.

Her mum hugged her tight.

“Tomi, I’m proud of you. You listened to your instincts and stayed safe. That’s what a wise child does.”

Tomi smiled.
She didn’t get the man’s “gift”…
But she got something more important — courage and safety.

MORAL OF THE STORY

Smart kids stay safe.
If you don’t know them, don’t follow them.
If your parents didn’t send you, don’t collect it.
And if something feels wrong — walk away fast.

Tomi and the Man with the Gift — Guess the Ending!

Tomi was walking home from school, swinging her water bottle and humming her favourite rhyme.

As she turned into her street, a man she didn’t know waved at her.

“Hello, pretty girl,” he said warmly.
“I have a small gift for you. Come and collect it.”

Tomi froze.
She didn’t recognise him.
He kept smiling and pointing to a bag beside him.

Her mind started racing.
Should she walk closer?
Should she turn back?
Should she run?

Tomi slowly stepped back…
and then she remembered something her teacher said in class last week.

She took a deep breath and…
