OFFICIAL SELECTION | AAIFF 2026

Congratulations to Jackson and the entire team behind 1785! 🥳🔥

An ancient spirit. A centuries-old curse. A story of love, betrayal, pain and vengeance that refuses to stay buried.

1785 follows two families whose lives are thrown into terror when Rungu, the vengeful spirit of a woman whose tragic fate was shaped by an ancient injustice, returns generations later—haunting pregnant women and forcing the living to confront the suffering of the past.

Blending horror, mystery and ancestral storytelling, 1785 takes us into a world where the past is never truly gone.

We are thrilled to have this compelling work as part of the 2026 All Africans Indie Film Festival. 🌍🎥

Congratulations, Jackson! We can’t wait for our audience to experience 1785. 🖤

CELEBRATING MARIAM — OUR CHIEF OF OPERATIONS

Every organisation has people who hold things together. The people who show up, figure things out, carry responsibility, and keep moving even when nobody is watching.

For us, that person is Mariam.

Since 2024, the All Africans Independent Film Festival has grown from an idea into a growing pan-African film and storytelling ecosystem — and Mariam has been an integral part of that journey.

Together, we have hosted 2 film festivals, 2 Women in Arts events and 2 Men in Arts events; screened 48 films; awarded 25 filmmakers; hosted multiple masterclasses across writing, editing and directing; supported artists through grants; launched our book club, press & journalism arm and production arm; and grown our community to filmmakers and creatives across 17+ countries in Africa and the diaspora.

We have built partnerships with festivals in the United Kingdom and are now expanding those relationships to Italy and Canada. And there is still so much ahead: fellowships, more grants, more screenings, more partnerships and more opportunities for African filmmakers.

Mariam has been there through it all.

She is not simply our Chief of Operations. She is part of the foundation on which this organisation has been built.

There is a story in 1 Samuel about Jonathan and David — about a friendship where Jonathan recognised David’s greatness, believed in his future, stood by him, protected him and supported him even when David’s destiny was greater than Jonathan’s own position.

Mariam, in your own way, you have been that kind of person to us.

You have believed in the vision, shown up for the work and remained committed to the journey.

Today, we celebrate you not only for what you have done, but for who you have been while doing it.

Thank you for your grit.
Thank you for your loyalty.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for believing.

This is AAIFF. And Mariam is an important part of our story.

Here’s to everything we have built — and everything we are yet to build.

OFFICIAL SELECTION | AAIFF 2026 × BRIXTON FILM FESTIVAL

We’re thrilled to announce that I No Be Ashawo (I Am Not a Pr******te) by Unlimited L.A. has been officially selected for the 2026 All Africans Indie Film Festival (AAIFF).

A powerful story that asks us to look beyond labels and confront the realities of childhood neglect, abuse, societal judgment, and the consequences of failing to protect vulnerable children.

And there’s more — through our partnership with Brixton Film Festival, UK, the film will also receive an Official Selection at Brixton Film Festival.

Cinema is not only about entertainment. Sometimes, it is about asking the uncomfortable questions.

Congratulations to the filmmaker and entire team behind I No Be Ashawo. We can’t wait to share this story with our audience.

FROM UGANDA 🇺🇬 TO NIGERIA 🇳🇬 TO THE UK 🇬🇧

The stories are travelling.

We’re excited to announce that United to Save the Environment by Ssekaana Frank from Uganda has been officially selected for the 2026 All Africans Indie Film Festival (AAIFF) in Nigeria.

And the journey doesn’t stop there.

Through our partnership with Brixton Film Festival, the film will also receive an Official Selection in the United Kingdom.

A story about a 10-year-old girl, her love for nature, and her determination to inspire her community to care for the environment is now travelling across borders — carrying a message that belongs to all of us.

🌍 Uganda → Nigeria → UK

One story.
Three countries.
One shared planet.

Congratulations to the filmmaker and the entire team behind United to Save the Environment.

Can Stories Change Policy Before History Repeats Itself?

Stories do more than entertain us. They shape how we understand people, question systems, preserve memory and imagine what comes next.

At the 3rd Edition of the All Africans Indie Film Festival (AAIFF), on the 28th of November,
we are bringing filmmakers, creatives, policymakers, advocates and cultural leaders into one room to explore a question that matters:

Can stories change policy before history repeats itself?

Under our 2026 theme, “The Future is Storytold,” our panel will examine the power of film, literature, media and storytelling to influence public conversations, challenge systems and shape the future we want to see.

And because stories should travel, films selected at AAIFF will also be screened at the Brixton Film Festival in the UK as part of our growing international partnership.

Join us for a conversation beyond the screen.

Big stories deserve bigger stages.

We’re excited to announce our partnership with Crest FM as we continue building a festival that doesn’t just celebrate African storytellers—it creates opportunities for them to be seen across borders.

This year’s theme, “The Future is Story Told,” is more than a statement. It’s our commitment to ensuring the stories shaping Africa today reach audiences around the world.

And here’s the exciting part:

🎬 Selected films at AAIFF will also be screened at the Brixton Film Festival in the United Kingdom, giving filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their work on an international platform.

If you’re an independent filmmaker with a story that deserves to travel, this is your moment.

Submissions are open.
Join us as we shape the future—one story at a time.
