Ogun State Police Rescue Ivorian After Alleged Self-Kidnapping Drama

The Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has rescued a 38-year-old Ivorian national, Kacou Alleby, in Ogun State, after he was initially reported kidnapped—only for investigations to reveal the incident was a case of self-kidnapping.

How the Alleged Kidnapping Was ReportedAccording to the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the operation followed a distress request from the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja, acting on behalf of authorities in Côte d’Ivoire.

On September 12, 2025, Alleby’s family in Abidjan received disturbing torture videos and ransom demands, leading to fears that he had been abducted by criminal gangs operating in Nigeria.

Swift Police Action in Ogun

Acting on directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, operatives of the IRT launched a coordinated operation that traced the suspects to Matogun, Ogun State.

During the operation, police arrested a 28-year-old female suspect, identified as Angela Arisa, also an Ivorian national. She later led detectives to a hideout at an estate in Olambe, where Alleby was found safe and unhurt.

Anambra Building Collapse: Construction Workers Feared Trapped in Three-Storey Structure at Awka

A major tragedy struck on Thursday morning in Awka, Anambra State, when a three-storey building with four suspended floors suddenly collapsed near the Anambra State House of Assembly, off Ekwueme Square, Okpuno.

The building, which was still under construction and at the roofing stage, caved in around 11:40 am, throwing residents, workers, and passers-by into panic. Fears quickly spread that several construction workers and artisans may have been trapped under the rubble.

Panic as Building Crashes Without Warning

Eyewitnesses reported that the building collapsed abruptly without any visible warning signs, shocking both workers on site and nearby residents. According to one bystander, the structure made a loud noise before crashing down, leaving behind a scene of chaos and confusion.

While the exact number of people affected has not yet been confirmed, rescue efforts were initially hampered by a lack of excavators and emergency equipment. Locals attempted to provide assistance while awaiting the arrival of emergency response teams.

Officials Launch Preliminary Investigations

Officials from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Material Testing Department were quickly deployed to the scene to investigate possible causes.

The Chairman of COREN-ERM Anambra State, Sir Victor Meju, explained that a preliminary investigation suggested poor concrete mixture and a possible foundation defect as key factors behind the vertical collapse of the structure.

He further revealed that the private-owned building was roofed just last week, raising questions about the safety standards and quality of materials used during construction. Read More...

Flood Overruns Lagos Communities, Motorists and Businesses Count Heavy Losses
Vehicular and business activities were brought to a standstill across parts of Lagos State on Wednesday after hours of torrential rainfall triggered flash floods in several communities.

Areas such as Maryland, Lekki, Ogba, and Ikorodu were among the worst hit, with roads submerged, homes invaded, and businesses disrupted. Videos circulating on social media showed residents wading through flooded streets while motorists crawled through waterlogged roads, with some vehicles breaking down completely.

Residents and Business Owners Lament Flooding
At Olatunji Street in Maryland, the overflow of a canal cut off access to the Mende community.
Chinasa Nnadi, a resident, said flooding had become a recurring nightmare.

“This has been happening for years. People even swim to their houses. Some relocate because it’s unbearable,” she lamented.

Business owners were not spared. Kalu, who has lived in the area for three years, described how water swept into his shop. Similarly, Christiana, a church member, explained that their worship centre was flooded, damaging costly musical instruments. Read More...

NDLEA Nabs Man With 8,000 Bottles of Drug-Laced Herbal Mixture, Cannabis in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking. A 37-year-old suspect was arrested with 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, a herbal mixture suspected to contain dangerous drugs, along with 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.

How NDLEA Operatives Made the Arrest

According to the NDLEA’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, the interception occurred along Gadar Tamburawa, Zaria–Kano Road. Operatives stopped a trailer conveying goods from Lagos to Maiduguri, and a careful search revealed the illegal consignment.

The trailer was loaded with tricycles (popularly known as Keke NAPEP), but beneath the units, NDLEA officers discovered a wooden cover concealing the bottles of Akuskura and cannabis blocks.

“NDLEA operatives discovered the concealment through their diligence and commitment,” Maigatari confirmed.

Suspect in Custody, Exhibits Seized

Both the suspect and the seized items are now in NDLEA custody. Authorities confirmed that further laboratory analysis and investigation will be carried out to determine the full scope of the operation and verify the substances.

The Commander of Kano State Strategic Command, ACGN AI Ahmad, praised the efforts of his team and acknowledged the leadership of NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), whose support has empowered frontline officers to make decisive moves against traffickers. Read More...
