YOUR DAUGHTER’S FIRST PERIOD SHOULDN’T BE A SURPRISE. 🤍
One of the best things we can do for our daughters is prepare them before their first period arrives.
And that preparation isn’t just about telling her what menstruation is.
It’s also about making sure she has what she needs when it happens.
If I were putting together a first-period kit for my daughter, I’d include:
🩷 Pads
A few different options if possible, so she can learn what feels comfortable for her.
🩷 Extra underwear
Because accidents happen, especially when she’s still getting used to managing her period.
🩷 Tissues or wipes
Useful for cleaning up when she’s at school or away from home.
🩷 A small discreet pouch
Something she can easily keep in her school bag or take to the bathroom.
🩷 A little comfort item
A favourite snack, water bottle or whatever makes her feel a little more comfortable.
But honestly, the most important thing in that kit isn’t something you can buy.
It’s reassurance.
I want my daughter to know:
“Your period isn’t dirty.”
“You don’t have to be ashamed.”
“You can always tell me what’s happening.”
“If you have an accident, we’ll deal with it.”
And please, don’t wait until her first period to have this conversation.
Talk to her beforehand.
Because when that day comes, I don’t want her first thought to be:
“Something is wrong with me.”
I want her to think:
“Mum told me this could happen. I know what to do.” 🤍
Mums of girls, have you started preparing your daughter for her first period?
