If your child is doing their homework, does that mean they understand the topic?
Not always.
A child can complete an assignment correctly because they memorised a method, copied an example, or received help along the way.
True understanding shows when they can:
• Explain what they have learnt in their own words.
• Apply the concept to a different question.
• Work through a problem without being guided step-by-step.
• Recognise and correct their own mistakes.
• Use what they learnt in a new situation.
So when checking your child's schoolwork, don't only ask, “Have you finished your assignment?”
Sometimes, ask:
“Can you explain this to me?”
That simple question can tell you much more about your child's understanding.
At Mindnest Academy, we believe learning is not just about completing tasks. It is about understanding, applying and growing in confidence.
Happy Tuesday, parents. Let's keep supporting our learners, one step at a time.
